Jim Bolger-trained Pleasach makes a quick return and looks great value in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh today.

The Irish 1000 Guineas winner finished second to Curvy at Royal Ascot ten days ago when a warm order in the Ribblesdale Stakes over a mile-and-a-half. She ran a bit too freely at Ascot and the drop back in trip to ten furlongs should suit.

The daughter of Teofilo takes on older rivals for the first time but her form is top class and the 13-2 on offer at Coral looks outstanding value.

David Wachman saddles the favourite Legatissimo who was beaten in the final stride when finishing runner up in the Oaks at Epsom and is another three-year-old Classic winner having won the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in May. The Irish equivalent looked to be the best on paper which is why the Bolger filly gets the vote.

The older brigade must be respected, especially Dermot Weld’s unbeaten four-year-old Brooch. The daughter of American-bred sire Empire Maker was an impressive winner of a Group 2 over a mile at the Curragh in May and gave the impression she could do even better over a longer trip.

Secret Gesture put up her best display to date when winning the Group 2 Middleton Stakes at York on her re-appearance. James Fanshawe’s Ribbons was also making her seasonal bow in the race and finished third beaten a length-and-three-quarters. The five-year-old won a Group 1 in France in the autumn and is likely to be seen doing her best work in the closing stages.
