Koup De Kanon ran well for a long way on his return after a prolonged absence and looks an interesting prospect for the two mile handicap chase at 3.10 Perth this afternoon.
The French bred had been off the racecourse since January 2013 before trainer Donald McCain entered him for a two-and-a-half-mile chase at Uttoxeter in late July. The gelding raced up with the leaders until tiring two out when jockey Wayne Hutchinson allowed the 9-year-old to come home in his own time.
Koup De Kanon should have benefitted from his chasing debut and could be well handicapped if able to rekindle his old hurdling form. McCain’s charge is up against a three-time course and distance winner but is worth chancing for today’s tip at 5/1 on bet365.
Robin’s Command has won three of his six career victories over Perth’s two mile chase course and must be respected again today. The 8-year-old won off a 1lb higher mark at Carlisle last October and trainer Rose Dobbin ran the gelding over the hurdle course two weeks ago which will have sharpened him up for this one.
Sleep In First owes connections nothing with a record of 5 victories from 15 over timber and shouldn’t be waiting long to return to the winner’s enclosure based on the 9-year-old’s narrow defeat at Sedgefield last time.
Claragh Native is another that could be in the shake up, Martin Todhunter’s 10-year-old won last year’s race and renews acquaintance with runner up Robin’s Command on similar terms.
The remaining entrants make little appeal, It’s All An Act ran well in Ireland in June but was a faller either side of that run. Muwalla is making his debut for Lisa Harrison’s yard but has been off the course for eleven months and will run off a career high handicap mark.
Ballycool blows hot and cold, Lucinda Russell’s 8-year-old is coming back from a break ranked 4lb higher than his best winning mark.
1pt win Koup De Kanon – 5/1 bet365
