With plenty of rain falling in Ireland tomorrow's Group 2 Derrinstown Stud Flying Five Stakes looks sure to be run on ground favouring horses who prefer plenty of cut in the ground and at the 14-1 available with Betfair Sportsbook the four-year-old Hot Streak looks excellent value to claim the first prize of 120,000 Euro on his first run for trainer Robert Cowell.
An impressive winner of Ascot's Cornwallis Stakes as a juvenile the son of Iffraaj looked potentially one of the best sprinters in Europe the following season when running out a half length winner of Haydock's Temple Stakes on soft ground on the back of which the horse was sent off the 3-1 favourite to take Royal Ascot's King's Stand Stakes. A length and a half third to top speedster Sole Power there was still a highly creditable effort but with one or two exceptions the Qatar Racing-owned colt has since been very disappointing for trainer Kevin Ryan who rated his inmate as possibly the best he has handled.
Connections obviously feel that a change of scenery may be need for the horse to regain his best form and with that in mind he is now in the care of Robert Cowell who does so well with this type of animal. Soft ground over the minimum trip are probably ideal for Hot Streak and with conditions likely to be perfect at the Curragh a return to something like his best should see the sprinter prove very hard to beat on his first run in Ireland.
Another soft ground specialist in the shape of Maarek is likely to prove the biggest danger as the mount of Jamie Spencer showed something like his best form when winning at Beverley last time despite having to overcome a slow start on ground a little livelier than the son of Pivotal prefers.
