PRESENT MAN (Wincanton 3.30pm) is a big, backward 5 year old son of Presenting and it is a wonder he managed to win a bumper here this time last year. He was allowed to take his chance in a Listed bumper at Newbury three months later but it was way too much too soon for this chasing type, who is certain to learn with more racing.
He went off at 4/6 for his reappearance at Wincanton but was a bit behind the others at Ditcheat following a breathing operation, so it was expected that he would need the run. So it proved as he failed to pick up at the business end. But he remains a promising sort for the Stewart family and Paul Barber who own Present Man and punters can expect him to strip a much fitter proposition this time around.
Whataknight was a prolific point to pointer and makes his debut for Harry Fry, it will be interesting to see what he can bring to the table under rules, having won his last five races in points. A first time tongue tie is fitted, suggesting he has one or two breathing issues, but hopefully the tie will rectify that and he can show his best. Final Nudge is the real thorn in the side for Present Man supporters though, already rated 120 he brings a solid level of form to the race, along with a good pinch of experience. He too was turned over at odds-on last time out, but is respected.
All told though, PRESENT MAN looks the value play at 6/4 with Skybet. The yard are producing a steady flow of winners in recent days, the like of Old Guard, Vicente and promising staying chaser Le Mercurey the most notable of those. The Ditcheat handler is also operating an impressive 27% strike at Wincanton from the 208 horses he has sent there in recent years.
