It took him four races and nine days to figure how to win a race, but win WINGED DANCER did ten days ago at Kempton Park and in good style too. Appreciating the step up to a mile having been outpaced over seven furlongs at Lingfield on December 28th, the three-year-old colt by Norse Dancer travelled well and drew readily clear of his rivals.

He reappears in Monday’s 4.00pm 32Red.com Handicap at Wolverhampton over the extended one mile distance and looks to have another clear-cut chance to get a win on the board.

Trainer Sylvester Kirk has been in good form of late, this horse and the like of Pacolita keeping the wins ticking over and plenty of his horses are running well in defeat. At Wolverhampton, the handler boasts a respectable 12% strike rate from the 206 runners he has sent here in recent years. The trainer isn’t messing around with jockey bookings for his recent winner either. George Baker rode Winged Dancer at Kempton and Luke Morris, an all-weather expert in the saddle, gets the leg up this time.

In opposition, Clodianna has been running consistently well for Roger Charlton and is sure to be pretty well fancied by punters and the market. But you just worry a little about how she’ll handle the tapeta surface here and the grey filly by Clodovil is also stepping up in trip which is a significant question in terms of stamina. One who will like this trip is Richard Fahey’s Frap, who got off the mark at Leicester back in October. Fitness is taken on trust after a four month absence though and again, the horse is unproven on the surface.

Sahalin is a last time out winner over the course and distance, but it is just a question of whether or not she will be quite good enough to beat Winged Dancer, a colt who comes into the race with superior form. Zainat and Lulworth have been given marks of 67 and 65 respectively on the back of three runs in maidens and could improve for handicaps, but they’ll need to sprout wings to deny Winged Dancer  if Sylvester Kirk’s likely favourite gets to Dunstall Park in the same kind of form he was at Kempton eleven days ago.
