Sandown Park stages a competitive race card on Friday with the Class 1 Weatherbys GSB Jane Seymour Mares Novices Hurdle at 2.45pm being the most valuable race of the meeting.

Venetia Williams saddles the consistent TARA FLOW for this race and although the six year old mare faces decent opposition, previous form suggest that she will have no problems with this extended 2 miles 3 furlongs distance.

Tara Flow has won three of her five hurdle races to date and was placed second in the others with the two miles trip negotiated on each occasion. During her previous race in a Class 3 novices hurdle at Leicester, the mare won by a comfortable six lengths with suggestions that the winning distance would have been even further with an extended trip. Her rating has been raised by just five points for that victory and as with the majority of Venetia Williams' horses, she appreciates testing conditions but also gives the impression of being a lazy animal and can idle when in front.

With Miss Williams saddling a steady supply of winners this season including 14 this year, there will be confidence in Tara Flow negotiating this step up in class with several of her opponents also facing a more serious test. Katie Too from the Alan King yard will be racing after a three months absence but has won both hurdle races in Class 4 company.

A final hurdle blunder by Jessber's Dream at Warwick on Saturday cost Harry Fry's mare a realistic chance of victory when she finished second to Flute Bowl, but there will be concern that she may not have recovered from that contest at the weekend.

Of the other contenders, a rise of 17 in the ratings for Actinpieces following a facile success in a Class 3 race at Fakenham may prove too great a burden while Sunshine Corner was second in a Class 1 event over 2m 3f during December, but offers the impression that two miles is her optimum distance.

There may be fears that Tara Flow will be unable to cope with this distance of close to 2m 4f, but this daughter of 2000 Ascot Gold Cup winner Kayf Tara may well relish the trip and is tipped to win this competitive novices hurdle.
