Popular National Hunt trainer Gary Moore tends to do well at the southern tracks and he has a respectable 18% strike rate from the 182 Plumpton runners saddled up in recent seasons. From four runners at the course today it is easy to see Moore could have a good start to the week, but AGINCOURT REEF is probably the best of his chances and will take all of the beating in the 3.15pm Handicap Chase over two miles and two furlongs.
The seven-year-old has endured periods of inconsistent form but has two career wins to date, including a career best last time up when winning a handicap hurdle at Taunton over this trip from handicap mark of 108. The handicapper has put him up 5lb for that which is fair, particularly in the context of this small field race which isn’t the strongest of class four contests by any stretch of the imagination. It seems that Goring Two has now had his day in the sun this season and has been pulled up in his last two races. He is dangerous around here but backing him comes with risk.
Sportsreport has raced here six times without a win and doesn’t win very often, looking a distinctly exposed sort at this stage. He is also 0-4 on today’s soft ground. Marky Bob completes the line-up and is another that isn’t without risk for any potential backers - he refused to race last time out at Southwell and in the past has shown much better form on good ground.
It is a tricky day across the three jumping cards and although Agincourt Reef is a short enough price, he represents a solid looking bet as the racing world gears up for the Cheltenham Festival tomorrow. Gary Moore’s stable continues to churn out winners and their horses seem to do especially well at the tracks in the south, Agincourt Reef can keep up appearances today under Joshua Moore, who keeps on improving his game in the saddle and can get another win on the board for himself here.
