When Faugheen was replaced by ANNIE POWER in the Champion Hurdle, racing fans knew they would finally find out exactly how good Annie Power really can be. Sure, she has chanced her hand at World Hurdle glory and faced plenty of good horses, but experts, fans and all in between have long thought of her as a mare well capable of winning a Champion Hurdle.

Well three weeks ago on day one of the Cheltenham Festival, Annie Power proved them all correct with a spell-binding performance under Ruby Walsh. She is top price of 4/7 for the Aintree Hurdle on Grand Opening Day of the Aintree Festival over an additional four furlongs, a trip she is arguably even better at!  She looks very much a good value odds-on shot to confirm superiority over some old rivals and will be the banker bet of the meeting for many punters.

The first of those rivals is of course My Tent Or Yours, who ran an unbelievable race to finish second to Annie Power last month following a full two years off the track. He showed all of his old ability, enthusiasm and talent there but in the cold light of day, Annie Power was just better in the final two furlongs. With her stamina assured and his not, it is unlikely he can play much more than a supporting role again.

Stablemate Nichols Canyon is an able deputy for sure. He definitely does stay the trip and will really enjoy the Aintree racecourse. Forecast backers will be steaming in on the 1-2 for Willie Mullins here, but again given her 7lb sex allowance and proven ability to beat these horses, it’s Annie Power who has all the answers.

The New One is respected having won here in the past, but it seems he has lost that potency and is looking vulnerable again. Camping Ground and Court Minstrel complete the lineup, but this is the Annie Power show and so long as she jumps well, there surely isn’t a horse here that can beat her.
