1.45 GASKELLS WASTE HANDICAP HURDLE

If In Doubt is sure to be popular here after his unlucky run at the Cheltenham Festival when meeting all sorts of trouble when finishing third in the Pertemps Final. Long House Hall and Arpege D’Alene both ran with credit at the festival and will have their supporters to go one better but it could be worth chancing the Jonjo O’Neill-trained Join The Clan who is one of several runners for leading owner JP McManus and can surprise some better fancied rivals at a big price.

2.25 EZ TRADER MERSEY NOVICES’ HURDLE

Likely long odds-on favourite Yorkhill looks head and shoulders above the opposition and it would be a massive surprise if the Willie Mullins runner failed to follow up his Cheltenham victory over Yanworth. With only seven contenders hard to recommend a value bet. Tough handicapper Flying Angel can follow him home.

3.00 DOOM BAR MAGHULL NOVICES’ CHASE

Anything but a comprehensive victory for the exciting Douvan would be disappointing which is reflected in his odds of 1-6. The Game Changer may possibly reward forecast backers but another race to skip from a betting point of view.

3.40 LIVERPOOL STAYERS’ HURDLE

World Hurdle winner Thistlecrack completes a trio of long odds-on favourites and, like the previous two Willie Mullins inmates, this is likely to turn into something of a procession. Shaneshill can follow Colin Tizzard’s outstanding stayer home at a respectful distance.

4.20 BETFRED HANDICAP CHASE

Since winning a minor contest at Leicester back in December the Fergal O’Brien-trained Mystifiable has risen a massive 22lb in the weights but the lightly-raced son of top Flat stayer Kayf Tara may not have stopped improving just yet and the mount of Sam Twiston-Davies can land the hat-trick at the expense of Coologue and the JP McManus-owned Cernunnos.

Recommended Bet - 1 Point each-way Mystifiable 7-1 Paddy Power

5.15 CRABBIE’S GRAND NATIONAL

A high-class renewal of the world’s most famous steeplechase and while it would be no surprise to see last year’s winner Many Clouds complete the double or the class of dual King George hero Silviniaco Conti prove decisive the Jonjo O’Neill-trained Holywell is a strong fancy to outstay the opposition off a very lenient mark of just 153, 10lb less than when finishing an honourable fourth behind Coneygree in last year’s Gold Cup. Always at his best at this time of year the nine-year-old ticks all of the boxes providing the horse described by his handler as “ a bit of a monkey “ takes to the unique Aintree fences. Those looking for a big priced alternative could do worse than having a few quid each-way on the Lucy Wadham-trained Le Reve who has plenty of decent form in valuable staying handicap chases and could go well with only 10st 8lb on his back.

Recommended bet - 2 Points each-way  Holywell  16-1 Coral ( 5 places )

6.10 PINSENT MASONS HANDICAP HURDLE

A wide-open finale in which many of the 22 contenders can be given a chance. Off his lowest mark since running out an easy winner at Warwick last May it could be worth chancing the strong-travelling War Singer at a big price.

Recommended Bet - 1 Point each-way War Singer 40-1 bet365
