2017 Stanley Cup Preview
After a tense start, it took until the last five minutes of the first period for a goal. From them on the Penguins strolled the first half building a 3-0 lead.
A Nashville Predators comeback tied the game before the Penguins took a 5-3 win in a fantastic start to a series which could be anyone’s.
The first game certainly told us this series could go right down to the wire. Despite winning the Penguins didn’t have a shot on goal for over 37 minutes and throughout the game were outshot 26-12. On another day a 5-3 scoreline could have been very different.
It highlighted the fact that despite a win, this isn’t the same Penguins team as last year and the Predators were certainly the better team on Monday even without hotshot Ryan Johansen.

What this means is that it’s a series could go the distance. A seven game series is at 19/10 with the bookmakers with Pittsburgh now 2/5 favourites with Ladbrokes after winning the first tie.
2017 Stanley Cup Betting Tips
There was something about Nashville last night and stealing a game on the road will be key to their success. They face-off with the Penguins next at the PPG Paints Arena once again where they will look to make much more of their dominance.
If they do so, a Nashville win and over 3.5 goals looks a nice bet at 13/5 with William Hill, while a James Neal goal at anytime is a safe bet at 13/8.
Neal has been in fantastic form and over the three seasons since signing for the Predators from the Penguins he’s netted 78 times. He’ll certainly be relishing facing his old team this series and we expecting to get a few goals in the process.
There will be plenty of others scoring around him, so 12/1 doesn’t look too appealing for the Series Goals Leader award, that could fall to Sidney Crosby or Jake Guentzel who have topped the goalscoring charts in the regular and postseason respectively.
Crosby netted 44 times in the regular season and at 4/1 to pick up the Goals Leader award in the Finals it’s worth a few quid.
Likewise, if he can secure the Penguins a series win he’ll be heavily tipped for the Conn Smythe Trophy at 3/1.
2017 Stanley Cup Predictions
After an interesting first game in which Nashville lost but left the ice the far more confident team, a 4-3 Predators series win at 11/2 with Paddy Power looks very good odds.
Naturally, the Penguins are the Penguins though. Nashville have never won the Stanley Cup, while Pittsburgh are the reigning champions and have four to their name. What’s more, while they weren’t at their best on Monday evening, they still got the job done.

It’s unlikely we will see a whitewash, even if the Penguins up the ante and begin to dominate the series. On the Predators home patch they will at least pick up something. A 4-1 Penguins win at 16/5 could be good value, while a 4-2 result looks more likely at 4/1.
It’ll be an interesting series to watch as it unfolds, but there’s plenty in it for both Pittsburgh and Nashville, as well as you punters.
