Spain seek success in Morocco meeting to book last 16 spot

After racking up four points from their opening two 2018 World Cup group games, Spain will look to secure their spot in the last 16 when they face Morocco.

Fernando Hierro’s side were forced to settle for a draw in their maiden game at the tournament as Cristiano Ronaldo hit a hat-trick for Portugal in a 3-3 result.

They then recovered to earn their first win over Iran, with Diego Costa netting a fortunate goal in a narrow 1-0 victory.

Next up are Morocco, who have lost both their games at the tournament and subsequently cannot progress. They are 17/2 outsiders with Coral to upset Spain with a shock triumph this time around.

But the Spanish look set to progress with a strong result here and they can be backed at 11/10 with Ladbrokes to win both halves of their final group clash.

Diego Costa can continue World Cup form

Atletico Madrid frontman Costa got off the mark at this summer’s World Cup in Russia against Portugal, then followed that solid performance up with the winner over Iran.

The La Liga forward has been a crucial factor for Hierro’s set-up so far and they will be relying on their attacking ace again when they collide with Morocco.

There a host of other in-form threats that Spain could benefit from as well, though, including Real Madrid playmaker Isco, who was voted Man of the Match in the triumph over Iran.

Meanwhile, for the Moroccans, Watford’s Nordin Amrabat has been a live wire during the course of the tournament and Real Madrid’s Achraf Hakimi is a danger from wide areas.

Morocco are simply looking to regain some pride and bow out of the tournament on a high, but Spain look set to dominate proceedings and book their position in the knockout stage on Russian soil.
