2.10pm Naas – Attribution, 2pts win at 3/1
If Min turns out to be the monster many think he is by winning the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival later this month in good style, then the form of ATTRIBUTION’s nine length second to the Cheltenham hotpot won’t look too bad at all in hindsight. Henry De Bromhead’s smart six-year-old gelding was a bit in over his head against that horse last time out but has solid novice form prior to that this season and he looks sure to make his presence felt in Sunday’s 2.10pm Listed Novice Hurdle.
Robert Tyner’s Gurteen is another of Min’s victim’s, slamming him by fourteen lengths when landing his maiden hurdle. Gurteen is a good prospect and has won his last two races since then, but this is by some way the deepest race he’s contested over hurdles so far despite the small field. Bryan Cooper has opted to ride the Willie Mullins trained Burgas over the selection and while he could be right on this improving youngster, it remains to be seen what the horse actually achieved when pulling clear of a 66/1 chance last time out.
Before his run-in with Min, Attribution finished a good second to A Great View when giving that useful horse 10lb and before that he produced a good time when successful in a Kilbeggan maiden hurdle. Overall, Attribution has a very consistent profile of a horse who tries hard and always runs his race. Davy Russell is an able deputy to Cooper and it would be little surprise if the second string Gigginstown runner proved best of the pair.
Royal Caviar and Sutton Place complete the line up in an interesting race and it’ll be useful to see where this quintet sit within the novice hurdling hierarchy in Ireland. Henry De Bromhead’s stable is in good form this month with wins from classy horses like Alisier D’Irlande, Days Hotel and Smashing already on the board and maybe Attribution can add to that tally if making use of his form and experience on Sunday.
