Australia v Germany Betting Tips

The Germans have experimented with their squad, with only three of that 2014 World Cup winning side in the squad this summer. They are Germany though and it’s littered with quality and will be an incredibly tough opening tie for the Aussies, who come into the tournament off the back of a 4-0 defeat to Brazil.

Germany on the other hand had the slightly easier task of San Marino on Saturday evening, dispatching them 7-0. They go into this as one of the favourites to win the Confederations Cup at 5/2, although some are questioning Joachim Low’s squad selection.

Not that there’s much to question. Despite leaving out Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller and Mesut Ozil to name a few, they still have the likes of Julian Draxler, Emre Can and Timo Werner, who, the latter of which has scored 21 in just 31 games for RB Leipzig this season.

A first goalscorer punt on him against Australia is a sensible option at 10/3 with Coral, while a brace for the German is priced at 4/1 with William Hill. What’s probably certain for most is that Germany will take the week and Werner first goalscorer sitting alongside that will score you 4/1.

Australia aren’t to be sniffed at though. There’s plenty of experience in the side, something of which the Germans are lacking. Tim Cahill will lead the Socceroos and at 37-years-old is running out of time on a football pitch so will be desperate to take a few more scalps.

The Oceania side have lost just once in their last nine games, that albeit being their last game, but have proved to be stern stuff. The Germans will have to cast aside their inexperience and play with a bit of freedom if they’re to play to their full ability.

It’s that inexperience which makes the game slightly more interesting. Australia conceded after just 12 seconds against Brazil, so a fast start for Germany could unlock a few doors. If they do manage that a 3-0 win at 9/1 with most bookies could be a great earner, particularly with them full of confidence after netting seven last weekend.

Australia’s odds look a little more daunting. A win comes at 4/1 while Cahill to score anytime is at 13/5. His aggression could fire up the Aussie side and the physicality his nation brings will be unsettling for the young Germans.

It’s an important game to kickstart Group B, and if Australia manage to get something from the game they’ll really fancy their chances of making it through the group. They’re currently at 14/1 to do that, in reality a bottom of the group team according to bookmakers. They’re made of stern stuff and while a win looks unlikely, a draw isn’t beyond the realms of possibility given the unknown quantity of a young German side.
