Ayr Tip: Tiger On The Prowl In Bronze Cup

Tiger Jim should be spot on after his most recent outing and looks good each way value for Ayr's Bronze Cup at 16/1 on bet365 who are paying out on five places
At 16/1 a £10 bet would return £170

Tiger Jim – 3.05 Ayr (Friday)

While the Gold Cup and to a lesser extent the consolation Silver Cup on Saturday provide the highlight’s of Ayr’s Western meeting there is much anticipation prior to Friday’s Bronze Cup, mainly due to the likely significance of the draw effect, as was the case 12 months ago when those coming from high berth’s dominated proceedings, including the William Hill-sponsored Heritage Handicap where, with the exception of runner-up Minalisa (drawn 2), the principles came from stalls 19, 26, 24 and 25 respectively.

Friday’s six furlong sprint should throw up plenty of clues as to whether those trainers who elected to go high when Thursday’s draw for the Gold Cup took place are regretting their pick in the lead up to Saturday’s £180k feature race but until then it may be wise to ignore any potential bias and with that in mind it is Tiger Jim from stall 3 who is the selection.

The Jim Goldie-trained five-year-old has just crept in at number 25 but the son of Tiger Hill’s best performance to date came over the course and distance back in June when easily beating Nameitwhatyoulike (three good subsequent runs including a Pontefract victory) and Shared Equity (recent third in a valuable Goodwood handicap) and off a mark just 5lb higher can go close providing his draw in stall 3 does not prove a massive disadvantage.

Tiger Jim is partnered by Fergal Lynch who also teams up with Jack Dexter our tip for the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday, also for Jim Goldie, and the rejuvenated rider who rode his first Grade 1 winner at the weekend aboard Mondialiste in Canada, will be aboard the horse for the sixth time this season and will find the drying conditions at the Scottish venue more at home than the soft ground encountered when running below par in Hamilton’s Scottish Stewards’ Cup back in July.

A creditable sixth place at Doncaster on his most recent start should have put Tiger Jim spot on for Ayr’s consolation race and at the 16-1 available with bet365 looks decent each-way value, especially with the extra place.
