Barcelona vs Real Sociedad preview, betting tips and prediction
May 17, 2018
Shockwaves were felt around Europe last weekend when Barcelona fudged up their unbeaten season at Levante. The newly-crowned Spanish champions were two games away from becoming the first side to get through a 38-game La Liga season unbeaten. Instead, they went down 5-4 to a side 15th in the table. At one stage it was 5-1 to the home side.
Lionel Messi, the best player in the world, was rested. Don’t be mistaken, Barcelona don’t have a Champions League final to prepare for. Messi was rested for a friendly against South African side Mamelodi Sundowns. Barcelona essentially sacrificed a truly unique achievement for a soulless exhibition match. Fans are understandably pissed and neutrals are baffled.
So we expect a red-faced Barca to play like men possessed when Real Sociedad come to town this weekend. La Real are in better form than their table-topping hosts and could net a few goals in the process but we expect Barcelona to end a strangely subdued season on a sort of high.
