Borussia Dortmund have a wonderful chance to close the six point gap on Bayern Munich this weekend when the Bundesliga leaders visit the Signal-Iduna-Park. Carlo Ancelotti has the German champions chugging along nicely but they look a lot more vulnerable than they did when Pep Guardiola was in charge. Ancelotti’s philosophy doesn’t have the same emphasis on possession. Having said that, they’ve only been defeated once this season, away to Atletico.
Thomas Muller is struggling in front of goal this season. The Germany international, who got involved in a high-profile spat online after beating San Marino, hasn’t netted in the league this season. Interestingly, his last domestic goal came in the 2-0 Supercup win over Dortmund.
Two players who come into the game in red-hot form are Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski, who have eleven and seven Bundesliga goals respectively. The Gabonese forward responded to being dropped by Thomas Tuchel with a hat-trick against Hamburg, the following weekend. The news that he could potentially be joined by Usain Bolt have gathered a lot of column inches.
If that ever did turn out to be anything more than a Puma publicity stunt then it would happen in the summer. Something that will get Dortmund fans more excited in the short-term is the potential return of Marco Reus this weekend. We can see Dortmund edging this one.
Dortmund predicted XI: Bürki, Piszczek, Papastathopoulos, Bartra, Guerreiro, Ginter, Rode, Castro, Mor, Dembele, Aubameyang
Bayern predicted XI: Neuer, Rafinha, Boateng, Hummels, Bernat, Alonso, Vidal, Douglas Costa, Thiago, Robben, Lewandowski
