Borussia Dortmund vs Wolfsburg preview, betting tips and prediction: Dortmund's struggles to continue
January 12, 2018
Two traditionally bid sides meet in the Bundesliga this weekend when Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg clash at the Westfalenstadion. Both teams will have had plenty to think about over the winter break following bizarre terms frustrated and baffled fans in equal measure.
Dortmund burst from the blocks at the start of the season. With former Ajax gaffer Peter Bosz at the helm, they won six of their opening seven fixtures and led the Bundesliga.
Then something happened. It’s hard to know what exactly but clearly it disrupted the harmony of the squad because Dortmund failed to win any of their next eight.
The undoubted lowlight was throwing away a four-goal lead at home to Schalke in the Revierderby. Bosz got canned, Peter Stoger was brought in and Dortmund began to win again. They’re still third in the table
Wolfsburg have lost four games in the Bundesliga, one less than Dortmund. Yet they’re nine points behind Dortmund in twelth. This is because they managed to draw ten matches in the opening term, an almost impressive amount of stalemates. There’s some comfort to take in being hard to beat but their struggle to win games is worrying fans. Three wins at the halfway point conjures up thoughts of a potential demotion looming, just or not.
The Wolfsburg cause has been boosted by a reported injury crisis for Dortmund with several players from the squad struck down by illness. Dodgy kebabs may have ruled Roman Bürki, Roman Weidenfeller, Marc Bartra, Christian Pulisic, Ömer Toprak, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Nuri Sahin, Andre Schurrle and Dominik Reimann. Can the Wolves kill a wounded animal?
