The Carabao Cup

The Carabao Cup is coming to its climax this week with two ties that as results stand are finely poised. Naturally, Manchester City and Chelsea are perhaps looking the most likely finalists, but as the competition has proved so far, anybody can beat anybody.

So far there has been plenty to talk about, not least the introduction of VAR to the competition, while Bristol City’s route all the way to the Semi Final has turned plenty of heads. They have plenty more to do in the Second Leg however. We take a look at which way the Second Legs of the EFL Cup Semi Finals may go.

Bristol City v Manchester City

1-2 Aggregate, January 23, 2018, Sky Sports

Bristol City have continually shocked throughout the EFL Cup and even came close to doing so at the Etihad, taking the lead before falling to an injury time winner by Sergio Aguero.

They were excellent however and will have to be on top form again if they’re going to take advantage of their away goal. Naturally, City go into the game as clear favourites at 2/9 and are huge favourites to win the Carabao Cup at 8/15.

It’s be hard to disagree. Pep Guardiola will field a strong side and we’d expect Bristol City to finally falter. A 2-0 win for City looks good value at 11/2, while we’d of course back Aguero to bag again with a 2-0 to win and Aguero to score at 11/1 with William Hill.

Bristol have upset the odds all season however and you can back them at 11/1 to win the game with a Bobby Reid goal and the Robins to win at a huge 25/1 in the bookmakers Enhanced Odds offering.

Kevin-De-Bruyne-Manchester-City

What may be likely is a big City win. Lee Johnson’s men have come so far but it may be one game too many for them. A 4-0 win could be a good punt at 9-1, although we’d expect Bristol to get one in front of their home crown, so 4-1 or 3-1 may be the best odds at 14/1 and 10/1 respectively.

Arsenal v Chelsea

0-0 Aggregate, January 24, 2018, Sky Sports

Arsenal and Chelsea go into this game finely poised with the first leg finishing in a goalless draw. That undoubtedly gives Chelsea the edge going into the tie with the away goals rule counting.

Arsene Wenger Arsenal tip

Chelsea go into the game at 5/4 favourites to get the result in the 90 minutes, with Arsenal 11/5 to reach the Final in normal time. Both sides had a great weekend, banging in four against Brighton (Chelsea) and Crystal Palace (Arsenal).

That means confidence will be high among both and the Gunners will also be boosted by Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s arrival in the squad and potential news surrounding other players on their radar. The Armenian will be cup tied, so he won’t be on the pitch but they will have some in form players out there.

Ozil excelled at the weekend and is 9/1 to score first, while Alvaro Morata is favourite to grab the first goal at 4/1.

The bookmakers are backing both teams to score, while Eden Hazard to score and Chelsea to win looks a good market to bet on at 3/1.
