Frampton has his sights on a bout with IBF Featherweight champion Lee Selby, who has held the title since 2015. The Belfast born fighter believes that beating Selby will raise his profile once again, along with offering a great payday, while Selby believes that a victory over Frampton would highlight how powerful a fighter he is. Before this contest can happen, 30 year old Frampton must focus on taking down the challenge of Gutierrez.
Gutierrez enters as a huge outsider for this contest as the level of opponent he has faced have been significantly worse than Frampton’s, while entering the danger zone that is Frampton’s hometown makes it all that bit harder for the visitor. The 24 year old will be looking to capitalise on damage done by Leo Santa Cruz and Scott Quigg in Frampton’s recent big bouts, but ultimately a 10/1 shock win seems very unlikely.
No question about it, Frampton will still be reeling from losing his WBC Super Featherweight title to Mexican Santa Cruz in January, but a record of 23-1 with 14 KO’s against some tough opponents, including Santa Cruz in their first fight, is still mighty impressive.
This fight is essentially tailor made for Frampton. Gutierrez fights with an aggressive, straight-up style which usually backfires when you come up against a stronger fighter. Though he will expect to receive a few big hits from the Mexican, Frampton should be able to dominate this bout in a controlled manner and odds of 8/13 with bookie Coral on a Frampton win via decision or technical decision is the safest bet.
