Carl Frampton seeks statement showing in Luke Jackson meeting at Windsor Park

Belfast’s Carl Frampton (25-1, 14 KOs) will finally make his long-awaited dream outing at Windsor Park this weekend as he faces off with travelling Australian challenger Luke Jackson (16-0, 7 KOs).

The Tiger’s Bay native has long desired lacing up his gloves and fighting in front of local supporters at the famous football venue, home of Linfield and the Northern Ireland national side.

He now has that opportunity on a huge night in Belfast, which will also see compatriot Paddy Barnes aim to become world champion and Tyson Fury continue his comeback to the sport.

Carl Frampton

But it’s Frampton that will look to capture the headlines with a statement showing against an opponent that has showed no signs of being overwhelmed by the occasion in recent weeks.

‘The Jackal’ will enter the ring as the odds-on 1/50 favourite with Ladbrokes to come out on top on home territory and edge closer towards another crack at world honours.

Meanwhile, former Australian Olympian Jackson is 12/1 with BoyleSports to cause an almighty upset on his travels to Belfast in front of a heavily partizan crowd.

The visiting challenger from Down Under has added fuel to the fire ahead of the most high-profile bout of his career to date, entering a war of wards with the home favourite before locking horns on Irish soil.

This has only added further incentive for Frampton though, as the former two-weight world champion looks to set up a title clash with either Josh Warrington or Oscar Valdez.

The 31-year-old has promised fans a knockout on his latest home showing and he is 10/11 with Coral to earn his first stoppage success since halting Chris Avalos back in 2015.

Jackson hasn’t fought anyone of Frampton’s calibre to date and this will be his first performance outside of his native homeland. But the 33-year-old will be keen to impress and has the technical ability to perhaps go deep into proceedings.

After back-to-back unanimous decision successes in Belfast over Horacio Garcia and Nonito Donaire, Frampton is a promising 2/1 with Paddy Power to rally to another points victory here on Saturday night.

Paddy Barnes battles for world title triumph over Cristofer Rosales

As well as Frampton preparing for his dream outing at Windsor Park, fellow Belfast fighter Barnes (5-0, 1 KO) is hoping to enjoy the biggest night of his career.

The two-time Olympic Bronze medallist will look to add a professional world title to his former amateur honours as he contests Cristofer Rosales (27-3, 18 KOs) for his WBC flyweight title on the undercard.

In what will be only his sixth outing in the paid ranks, Barnes will climb the ring ropes at 2/1 with Betfair to dethrone the reigning title holder on home turf.

The 31-year-old faces a tough task though, with Nicaragua Rosales having impressively stopped Japanese star Daigo Higa in nine rounds to claim his current crown back in April.

Rosales, the defending WBC titlist, holds defeats to Britain’s Khalid Yafai and Andrew Selby on his record but has looked in more dangerous form of late.

The 23-year-old is the odds-on 4/9 front runner with William Hill to successfully defend his belt and hand Barnes his maiden setback as a pro in his own backyard.

Former unified heavyweight champion Fury (26-0, 19 KOs) is also back in action on the card and he is 6/4 with Coral to end latest opponent Francesco Pianeta’s (35-4-1, 21 KOs) night inside the opening five rounds.

Carl Frampton is 2/1 to win by decision with Paddy Power.
