Chelsea v Arsenal Betting Tips, Preview and Predictions

Chelsea v Arsenal Betting Tips

In their second competitive meeting of the season, Arsenal are set to travel to Stamford Bridge to face London rivals Chelsea this coming Sunday.

Arsenal were the unlikely winners of the Community Shield in August, scoring late to earn a 1-1 draw and defeating Antonio Conte’s men in the subsequent penalty shootout.

However, Chelsea have won 20 of their last 22 home matches in all competitions, including their 3-1 defeat over Arsenal en route to championship glory back in February. Despite a poor loss to Burnley in unusual circumstances on the opening day, Chelsea are still expected to compete heavily in the Premier League title race, priced at 5/1 with most bookmakers, while Arsenal have been disregarded as a real outsider at 28/1 with BetVictor.

Arsenal’s last league game before this trip was their 3-0 home win over Bournemouth at the weekend – a much needed triumph after back-to-back humiliations at Stoke and Liverpool in weeks previous. Chelsea came up trumps in their latest encounter too, taking three points from former champions Leicester City in a 2-1 win at the King Power Stadium.

The Blues are now on a three match winning streak following that win after overcoming Everton and Tottenham in impressive circumstances in the weeks prior. For the return to Stamford Bridge this weekend, Gary Cahill is back from a three-match suspension he picked up on the opening day. Chelsea are, at the time of writing, injury free and have a number of options to choose from, including influential winger Eden Hazard who is expected to play a part.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are without long-term absentee Santi Cazorla until the new year, while the fitness of Alex Iwobi and Calum Chambers remains uncertain. Danny Welbeck’s impressive brace against Bournemouth hands Arsene Wenger a welcomed selection dilemma upfront with him, Alexandre Lacazette and Olivier Giroud competing for attacking roles.

Although it hasn’t completely gone under the radar, Arsenal’s away form has been very poor for a top Premier League side for quite some time. Last season, the Gunners lost away at all four teams who finished above them (Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool), also losing at West Brom and Crystal Palace in 2017. In their two opening road matches, they have lost 1-0 to Stoke and 4-0 to Liverpool and Chelsea are arguably a stronger proposition than both of those sides.

Chelsea haven’t actually lost at home to Arsenal since 2011, when Arsene Wenger’s side defeated Andre Villas Boas’s in a 5-3 thriller. The five games after that have seen the Blues score 15 goals and concede just two in five successive wins.

Chelsea are worthy favourites heading into this one, priced at 17/20 with William Hill. We’re happy to back that considering their latest performances. The Blues have beaten the -1 handicap in their last four home matches against Arsenal and we see value in that happening again at 85/40 with Wills. Alvaro Morata has started life in London exceptionally well and we also see value in Morata to score and Chelsea to win here.
