Chievo vs Inter Milan preview, betting tips and prediction
April 20, 2018
Inter Milan have developed a reputation as one of the biggest bottlers in Europe this season. Is it well-earned? We would be inclined to say yes given that they passed up the opportunity to move into the top four when they drew nil all in Atalanta. Champions League rivals AS Roma and Lazio, both a point ahead in third and fourth respectively, would play out their own goalless draw later that weekend. But the scoreline often doesn’t quite tell the story for Inter.
Luck is a very real thing in sport. The expected goals statistical trend that has emerged over the last year or two has been divisive but is one of the closest things we have to measuring luck. Inter concede a lot of goals that they wouldn’t be expected to concede. Meaning that their defence is generally very good but still succumb to goals from unexpected places.
In midweek, they faced relegation-battling Cagliari and their defensive superiority was clear for all to see. On their way to a 4-0 win, they managed not to allow Cagliari to have a single shot at goal. That was in Milan. Travelling to Chievo might be a different story. Their recent trips haven’t been very fruitful, failing to win any of their last three on the road. If they are to shed the tag of bottlers then they will need to make their own luck against another relegation-battling side.
