Cricket: ICC Men’s T20 World Cup - India v England Preview & Betting Tips

England remain on track to secure the T20 World Cup crown and add it to the 50-over title they won oh so gloriously back in 2019

  • ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, semi-final
  • Thursday 10 November, 2022
  • India v England
  • Adelaide Oval (8am UK)

I tipped England to win this competition before a ball was bowled, and I won’t be changing my mind now, despite them yet to really hit top gear.

They are a best price of 1/1 with a host of firms, including Betfred, and I would be taking the price.

Jos Buttler’s side have only really put in one highly impressive performance, which came against fellow semi-finalists New Zealand at Brisbane’s Gabba when they comfortably defended a target of 180. The rest of their showings have been a bit scratchy. The loss to Ireland is the obvious example.

But I would say that for India as well. They haven’t exactly set the world on fire yet, showing obvious signs of vulnerability.

While they won four of five group games compared to England’s three of five, they lost one and could have so easily lost another two against Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Adelaide is a venue which is not immune to high scores in T20 cricket, and I’m including the Big Bash in that generalisation. But, in six matches to date there in this event, there have only been two 180 plus totals.

So I would be erring on the side of caution. However, I do like the 11/10 Betfair Sportsbook are offering via their #OddsOnThat selections on both teams to post 160 plus runs each. There is enough batting quality on show to secure that punt.

Arsh to dig deep and Singh a merry tune and Mark Wood to give India a splinter

Seamer Arshdeep Singh has been India’s standout bowler in this tournament with 10 wickets, including one three-wicket haul a trio of two-fors and a one-wicket return.

He has been bowling with the new ball and, crucially, at the death, and I would be interested in a couple of prices on his success against England.

I can also see further success for England’s in-form quick Mark Wood, who has struck nine times and caused batters all kinds of problems with his pace. In four appearances, he has returned two three-wicket hauls, a two-for and a one-for.

There has been a suggestion that he is an injury doubt with general stiffness. But if he misses a World Cup semi-final due to general stiffness, then the world’s gone mad as far as I’m concerned!

There are two prices I like with Ladbrokes. The first is the 6/5 they are offering on Singh to take over 1.5 wickets in this fixture, while they have a price boost of Mark Wood to do the same at 7/4.

There is another price boost of 7/2 which bet365 have on Singh to be India’s top bowler.

Just returning to Wood success to finish

If you fancy him to go well and England to produce a dominant, polished display, then it may be worth considering the 12/1 Ladbrokes are offering on him to take two wickets, Jos Buttler to score a fifty and Alex Hales to hit a six.
