Cricket: ICC Men’s T20 World Cup - Sunday Previews & Betting Tips

The competition’s final day of group action sees India, South Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh all have a chance of sealing a last-four berth.

  • South Africa v Netherlands, Pakistan v Bangladesh and India v Zimbabwe
  • Adelaide Oval and Melbourne Cricket Ground (12am-8am UK)

I have to say, aside from the rain that has ruined a few games, this has been a brilliant World Cup. Shocks, stunning performances and qualification going right down to the wire.

Tomorrow sees us start the final week of action, with three games in Group Two deciding who will join New Zealand and England in the semi-finals.

Group One winners New Zealand will face the second-placed team in this group, currently South Africa, while England - second in Group One - will face the Group Two winners, with India on course to secure that honour.

My view is that India will actually head into their 8am clash with Zimbabwe knowing they must win to qualify. But I’m sure they will do so when all is said and done.

The current situation in Group Two after four games (net run-rate in brackets) is that India lead the way six points (0.73), South Africa are second with five (1.441), Pakistan are third on four (1.117) and Bangladesh are fourth on four (-1.276).

I see South Africa beating the Netherlands and Pakistan doing likewise against Bangladesh, both in Adelaide. That would see them both leapfrog the Indians before they go and beat Zimbabwe at the MCG to see them win the group.

If you do fancy backing that treble, it won’t make you rich given Vbet are offering a miserly 0.4/1.

Let’s look elsewhere for value, hey!

South Africa v Netherlands, Adelaide, 12am

At time of writing, South African speedster Anrich Nortje is amongst the top five leading wicket-takers in the tournament with 10 in four games. The majority of players either side of him on the list have all played seven times in the tournament given they were all involved in the qualifiers.

So, on that basis, there is a very good argument to be made to suggest he has been the standout bowler in the Super 12 stage of the World Cup, taking hauls of 4-10 and 4-41.

I would therefore be keen to side with him to be the Proteas’ top bowler against the Dutch, with bet365 offering a price boosted 10/3 on him to secure that market.

I just think his extra pace will be too much for a Dutch batting line-up who have not yet made a total of 150.

Pakistan v Bangladesh, Adelaide, 4am

Talismanic Pakistan openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been unusually quiet in this competition. Babar has not yet got into double figures in four innings, while Rizwan’s best of 49 has been supplemented by other scores of four, four and 14.

We all know they are much better than that, and their country could do with an upturn in their form in order to keep semi-final hopes alive.

I’m going to suggest siding with two Ladbrokes bets. The first is the 13/8 they are offering on the openers to score 75 runs combined. That does not mean they have to share an opening stand of 75, but just post 75 between them. Babar scoring one and Rizwan 74, for example, would be a winner.

The other is the price boosted 3/1 on Rizwan to score a fifty in this match.

He has reached 50 on 23 occasions in his 77-game T20I career, including twice against Bangladesh as part of a warm-up series in New Zealand last month.

India v Zimbabwe, Melbourne, 8am

I would certainly be having a dart at bet365′s price boosted 5/1 on Sikandar Raza to be Zimbabwe’s top batter in this match.

Raza is his country’s star player, and he is inside the top 10 leading run-scorers in the tournament with 185 from seven innings, including a best of 82.

The 36-year-old swashbuckler has done all of this from number five in the order, but he could well get plenty of time to secure this market should India gain success with the new ball, which is to be expected.

One of the stars of this World Cup can definitely go out with a bang.
