I’ve picked out a five-fold acca, which I think is a cracker this week as the Vitality Blast reaches the halfway mark in the group stage.
First things first. I think Durham are good value at 4/5 with Unibet amongst other firms to beat Northamptonshire at Chester-le-Street at 6.30pm on Tuesday.
Durham have had a great season across both the County Championship and the Blast. They’re unbeaten in the former and top of Division Two and very much in the hunt for the quarter-finals in the Blast having won three of their five games so far.
They’re inside the all-important top four places in the North Group and have games in hand on teams around them.
They face a Northants side who have won three and lost three, and I’d be taking the Durham win as a single.
That’s then part of a five-fold acca across the North and South Groups on Tuesday and Wednesday.
All of the teams I’m choosing are odds on single choices - shorter prices than Durham - but as part of an acca with William Hill they would bring back 8.9/1.
From the Tuesday games, I fancy champions Hampshire to win at Middlesex, Durham to beat Northants and resurgent Yorkshire to win at Leicestershire. From Wednesday, you can add a Lancashire win at home to Worcestershire and a Birmingham win at home to Derbyshire.
- Hampshire to win at Middlesex (Tue, 4.30pm)
- Durham to beat Northants (Tue, 6.30pm)
- Yorkshire to win at Leicestershire (Tue, 6.30pm, Sky Sports)
- Lancashire win at home to Worcestershire (Wed, 5pm)
- Birmingham win at home to Derbyshire (Wed, 6.30pm)
Now, the one which might catch your eye from that is Lancashire to beat Worcestershire at Blackpool.
The Lightning are 8/13 to win, despite facing the current North Group leaders as they bid to end a four-game losing streak.
It has been a remarkably bad week for Lancashire, who had won their first three matches. But their star-studded team have hit the buffers.
I just think they’re too strong to carry on losing and expect this fixture will be the one in which they stop the rot.
Jos at a loss - but he’ll come good
Including the latter stages of the IPL with Rajasthan, England white ball captain, Lancashire’s, Jos Buttler is on a run of six games without a score better than 23.
That run of scores reads 0, 0, 0, 1, 11 and 23, the latter against Nottinghamshire last time out at Trent Bridge when he was undone by a beauty of a yorker from Shaheen Afridi.
Let’s face it, Buttler is too good to carry on failing, and I would be taking two of bet365′s prices on his success against Worcestershire by the seaside on Wednesday (5pm).
They’re offering 5/6 on him to go over 36.5 points on the Player Performance market. That’s a point a run, 10 per catch and 25 per stumping.
They’re also offering 2/1 on him to score a fifty in the match.
Dawid on a roll
England batter Dawid Malan looks in imperious touch for Yorkshire, posting scores of 95 not out, 83 and 91 not out at the top of their order in their last three matches - all wins against Notts, Lancashire and Derbyshire.
Ladbrokes have price boosted him to 9/4 to score another fifty in their match against Leicestershire at Grace Road on Tuesday evening, a price I would be taking.
Diamonds could be made to feel rough
I don’t usually delve into the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the women’s regional T20 competition. But a price has caught my eye.
It’s the final day of group action on Wednesday, with the Lancashire based Thunder hosting the Yorkshire based Northern Diamonds at Blackpool in a morning fixture.
It’s pretty much a semi-final in the race for Finals Day.
And I think Thunder are a good price at 5/4 with SportingIndex to win. Diamonds are four points ahead of their rivals with a possible five points to play for. But the Diamonds have lost their last two matches and Thunder have won three out of their last four and could have England trio Emma Lamb, Kate Cross and Sophie Ecclestone available.
