We’re back on the oche this Friday as the European Championships continue in Dortmund.
Former title-winners Peter Wright and Michael van Gerwen are in action as we head into the weekend, with 16 second round spots up for grabs.
Play continues at 6pm, so let’s take a look at some of the best opening round tips.
6.30pm - Dimitri van den Bergh vs Daryl Gurney – Over 10.5 legs at 3/1 with bet365
Dimitri van den Bergh is capable of unplayable darts on his day, but he can also become embroiled in early round scraps.
Daryl Gurney is no where near the form that saw him sink the Players Championship and Grand Prix across 2017-18, but is still able to push the Belgian to the brink.
An 11-leg thriller wouldn’t be remotely surprising here between these ultra-competitive arrowsmiths.
9pm - Michael van Gerwen to beat Chris Dobey 6-2 at 9/2 with bet365
After a couple of years struggling for motivation, form and fitness, Michael van Gerwen is back in the groove.
Whilst that may be good news for the Dutchman, it’s pretty awful news for the rest of the PDC, as “Mighty Mike” begins picking up trophies again.
Dobey stands opposite van Gerwen in a European Championship opener and it’s currently 7-0 to the Dutchman in head-to-heads between the pair.
Picking the 6-2 is a bit of a finger-in-the-air punt, but that is the sort of gulf we are expecting between these two on Friday.
7pm - Ross Smith to beat Joe Cullen at 6/4 with bet365
We smell an upset here.
Joe Cullen may well be a major winner – scooping this season’s Masters crown – but his recent form opens up the door to some value with Ross Smith.
Cullen has lost to Ryan Meikle, Cameron Menzies and Gian van Veen over the past week at the Players Championship 25-27 – a trio with a combined ranking of 262 and Smith is a cut above all three.
6/4 for Smith to win this race to six grabs our attention.
