We’re seeing double in Newcastle...
Seven days on from the Premier League Darts Night 7 in Nottingham, Night 8 has spat out the same fixtures as we reach the half-way point in the regular season.
Opening the night is a well-trodden showdown between Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright.
The pair of former world champions have 24 points between them so far this campaign, with the Dutchman doing the heavy lifting and laying claim to 22 of them.
Last week’s winner in Nottingham, Gerwyn Price, squares off against his World Cup compadre Jonny Clayton, Nathan Aspinall looks to stop his 1-9 record rot against Dimitri van den Bergh and best buds Michael Smith and Chris Dobey look horns once again.
Let’s check out this week’s 10/1 Weekly Darts Acca.
Michael van Gerwen to win and highest checkout vs Peter Wright
After winning three Nights on the spin, MVG was brought crashing back down to earth last week.
He fell 6-0 to Dobey in a rare whitewash loss for the Dutchman and will be looking to bounce back in Newcastle.
Peter Wright lost his quarter-final, again, giving him one win in seven Premier League matches this season.
Wright’s lack of form is a real concern and van Gerwen should be able to flex his muscles here.
Nathan Aspinall to beat Dimitri van den Bergh
Dimitri van den Bergh is undoubtedly Nathan Aspinall’s bogeyman.
The Belgian leads the “Asp” 9-1 in head-to-heads, with the Englishman’s solitary win coming in a 5-3 World Championship win in 2019.
But we’re strong believers in the Monte Carlo fallacy here at freebets.com – surely Aspinall can’t roll an odd number 10 matches in a row?
The “Asp” is fourth in the league and currently sat two points on top of DvdB and we can see him finally getting over the line in Newcastle.
Gerwyn Price to beat Jonny Clayton
We’re smelling a portion of repeat rather than revenge in Newcastle.
Price edged out the “Ferret” 6-4 last week, but Clayton is showing real week-on-week improvement at the oche despite lingering in 7th in the league.
But Price has beaten Clayton in their last five meetings and after winning the week in Nottingham, Price’s blood will be pumping stronger than usual.
He’s odds on to make it six on the spin against Clayton and it makes a deserving place in our acca.
Michael Smith vs Chris Dobey – Over 9.5 legs
Chris Dobey has had the edge over the world number one in their last two meetings, but they have been pretty close-run encounters.
Dobey will receive the home support in Newcastle on Thursday and this added boost should see another closely fought contest.
We’re not picking a winner here but a 6-5 or 6-4 either way boosts our acca well.
