Eibar vs Barcelona preview, betting tips and prediction: Barcelons's title charge to continue
February 15, 2018
Goalless draws are like solar eclipses in Barcelona, they only come once in a blue moon. Not that the two are related in any way. Sloppy astronomical analogy out of the way, we’ll move on. One of the more surprising results in Europe last weekend was Barcelona being held to 0-0 at home to Getafe. It gave their rivals a chance to cut down their lead at the top of the table.
While they’re still seven points clear of nearest challengers Atletico Madrid, Ernesto Valverde’s men will be keen to put that freak result behind them. No side containing Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Philippe Coutinho should struggle for goals. The South American trio didn’t play their usual brand of football – the quick passing in tight spaces that they’ve become famed for – against Getafe. And 80% possession is all well and good but not if you’ve nothing to show for it when it comes to the only statistic that matters. We’re talking about goals, baby.
Ousmane Dembele came off the bench last weekend and the £135 million summer signing will continue his recovery against Eibar. He has missed much of the season through injury. Barcelona have been trying to help him settle in the city by providing his own chef, doctor and security, hinting that his problems have been compounded by some kind of homesickness. A goal against Eibar would make him feel like he belongs in a Barcelona shirt. They’ve scored at least four in their last four meetings with the Basque side, who are currently 7th.
