Excitement is really building ahead of Euro 2020 with England fans growing in optimism about the Three Lions’ chances of winning their first European Championship.
This is surely the strongest England squad for many years with Premier League, Champions League and La Liga winners as well as some hugely exciting young players among the travelling party.
Gareth Southgate has made the big calls for his squad but he still has decisions to make with regards to his team selection and tactics so Wednesday night’s match against Austria is more important than a run of the mill international friendly.
To make the most of the match, we’ve put together a Bet Builder with bet365 which pays out at 15/2 with bet365* if successful.
- England to Win

England Bet Builder Betting Tips:
England to Win
There weren’t too many surprises when Gareth Southgate trimmed his provisional England squad to the 26 allowed for Euro 2020.
Jesse Lingard can feel a little hard done by given his form for West Ham in the second half of the season but otherwise the surprises were welcome such as the inclusion of Trent Alexander-Arnold Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham.
Lingard and the other players who missed out including James Ward-Prowse and Ollie Watkins have remained with the England squad and will be given the chance to play against Austria.
They have all reportedly taken the news professionally and are looking forward to Wednesday night where their performances can help England to beat an Austria side who qualified for Euro 2020 with relative ease but who just lack the quality of Southgate’s men.
Under 3 Cards for Both Teams
As important as this match is for both Southgate and his opposite number, Franco Foda, their number one hope for Wednesday night is that their players escape without suffering any injuries.
Southgate is going to carefully manage his players carrying knocks such as Jack Grealish Henderson while Harry Maguire will not be risked as he is unlikely to be fit for England’s opener against Croatia.
You are not going to see any player risk their participation in Euro 2020 by making a rash tackle or overexerting themselves so under three cards in the match looks a safe selection.
Harry Kane to Score
Of all the decisions for Southgate to make, the choice of central striker is the easiest.
Harry Kane is the England captain, their best player and the first name on the team sheet. He has had his own injury troubles recently but seems to have put them behind him and Kane can lead by example by scoring against Austria.
First Half to Have Most Goals
The final selection for our Bet Builder is on the first half to have more goals than the second.
This is a chance for players on the fringes of the starting XI for England and Austria to make their case for inclusion in their nation’s first match at Euro 2020 so we could see a relatively fast start.
That is sure to peter out in the latter stages though as players become more concerned with not burning themselves out so the bulk of the action should be kept to the first half.
