Prince Of Poets – 2.40 Exeter
Prince Of Poets goes in the second on Exeter’s racecard and looks weighted to land the eight-runner Ilfracombe Food Service Handicap Hurdle for trainer David Pipe.
We tweeted the tip for the four-year-old on @racingtips2day yesterday evening when the gelding was a 6-1 chance but the best value this morning is 5-1 on Coral follow support across the board.
The son of Byron has finished behind the favourite Bulletproof on his last two outings but is weighted to reverse the form following a re-assessment by the handicapper. Pipes’ charge won his bumper when first introduced to a racecourse at Lingfield 11 months ago but took some time to adapt to hurdling. The last two efforts have been more promising and with scope for improvement is worth following today.
Bulletproof is chasing a four timer following a brace at Newton Abbot and success on this course 12 days ago. While expected to run well, the nine-year-old may find the additional 10lbs allotted after his last run to prove too much.
Drifter is another in fine form having notched wins at Perth and Sedgefield last month but Harry Whittington’s four-year-old will need to show bigger improvement to land his hattrick after being weighed down by an extra 7lbs.
David Arbuthnot saddles Tingo In The Tale who ran a promising second at Huntingdon last November to suggest he would be capable of winning over hurdles but disappointed on his introduction to handicap company in February. He comes into the race on the back of reasonable performance on the flat at Lingfield all-weather last month and is a potential danger.
Of the remaining runners Cruise In Style is in good form but the rise in weights following the mare’s Uttoxeter win proved too much last time and it could be a similar story at Exeter today.
