Wednesday is going to be a busy night of European football action, and we are going to highlight four of the very best bets.
- Ajax to beat Vitesse and under 3.5 goals (7pm)
- Atalanta to beat Lecce (5:30pm)
- Espanyol win or draw v Villarreal (7pm)
- Union Berlin to beat Augsburg (7:30pm)
Game In Hand
The first of our four clashes takes us to the Dutch Eredivisie and with Ajax currently two points behind title rivals PSV, Wednesday will offer the Amsterdam outfit the chance to wrestle back top spot.
With Alfred Schreuder’s men currently possessing a game in hand over PSV, the visit of Vitesse is certainly an important one and with a home win being priced as short as 1/9, I have looked elsewhere for the value.
Value that comes in the shape of a home win and under 3.5 total goals at odds of 8/5. Although Ajax is currently averaging 3.25 goals a game on their own, they have had a busy few weeks and therefore, their usual attacking potency may not be on display.
Bouncing Back
Next up we go to Serie A and after losing a top of the table clash to Napoli, Atlanta have not only ceded ground to the current league leaders, but they have also slipped two further rungs down the ladder.
A 2-1 home reverse at the weekend means Gian Piero Gasperini’s men are now eight points off the pace and if they are to reignite their hopes of winning the title, they must return to winning ways on Wednesday.
Thankfully for them, they travel to a Lecce side who are currently fifth from bottom and have not won any of their last six league outings. With this in mind, an away win at odds of 17/20, is the second selection on my coupon.

Sink The Submarine
Now we take a trip to La Liga, as Espanyol prepare to play host to Villarreal and with Unai Emery recently stepping off the Yellow Submarine, it is now down to Quique Setién to take charge of managerial affairs.
While his first task will be to try and rid Villarreal of their rather indifferent form. They have lost four of their last six league outings and perhaps more importantly, have failed to score in any of their last six away fixtures.
Which means Espanyol will be keen to get something out of this game and even though they have failed to win any of their last four, the last three have been draws. Which is why I am backing the hosts in the double chance market at odds of 8/15.
Off The Top
The final of my four Wednesday picks takes me to the Bundesliga and after Union Berlin were thrashed by Xabi Alonso’s new look Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, they have also been surpassed at the top by Bayern Munich.
Now the team from Germany’s capital will have to prove that they are not just an early season flash in the pan and the best way to do that, is by staying on the coattails of Julian Nagelsmann’s all-star squad.
While it is fair to say that the fixture computer has been rather kind to Union Berlin in midweek, as they welcome an Augsburg side that have not won any of their last five. Which means, I am certainly plumping for the hosts to win at odds of 11/20.
While if you put all four combinations together, Bet365 are prepared to offer you 10.43/1 in return.
