Christophe Galtier Returns

The first of our four clashes takes us to Lille and with them being the last team to win Ligue 1 outside of PSG, this should make for a rather interesting clash on Sunday and especially as Christophe Galtier was the man who oversaw such success.

Now though Galtier has arrived in the French capital, albeit via a diversion through Nice and with the 55-year-old taking the PSG reins from Maurico Pochettino, winning another domestic crown is the bare minimum in terms of expectations.

Then again, if this is to be the bare minimum, then at least he and PSG are going about things the right way and after already scoring 10 goals in their first two league encounters of the season, they are also the only team to be on maximum points after week two of the campaign.

As always it is PSG who are clear favourites to come out on top and therefore, to make things interesting and in a bid to add a base layer to my Sunday accumulator, I have backed the defending champions to win both halves at odds of 5/2.

See You In Strasbourg

Next up we go to Strasbourg, not because of a trip to the European Court of Human Rights but the Stade de la Meinau instead and with Sunday’s hosts preparing for the visit of Reims, it is fair to say that the fixture computer has been somewhat kind before the weekend.

Because with Reims currently propping up the other 19 teams in Ligue 1, they have had the worst possible start to the season and although an opening weekend defeat to Marseille is par for the course, it is last week’s result which will be of greater concern.

With a 4-1 reverse at Marseille getting proceedings underway, that was then followed up with a 4-2 home defeat to Clermont Foot and if results of this kind are to be the new regular, then it is certainly going to be a difficult campaign for Oscar Garcia and his players.

While in my opinion it could also be a difficult Sunday for the former Brighton boss and his squad and for this reason, I am plumping for Strasbourg to come out on top. A choice that adds odds of 3/4 to my accumulator slip.

Three Points Please

With four teams falling through the relegation trapdoor at the end of this season, those outfits that are usually operating in the bottom half of Ligue 1 are going to have to be a lot more careful. Added tension for those involved and additional excitement for those watching from afar.

While for those watching from afar this weekend, their eyes will be diverted towards Roazhon Park and with both Rennes and AC Ajaccio still searching for their first win of the season, both outfits will identify Sunday as they day in which it arrives.

Going into this clash, hosts Rennes managed to earn themselves an impressive draw at Monaco last weekend and AC Ajaccio also made do with a stalemate, as they played out a goalless encounter with Lens.

Although it is Rennes’ showing in Monte Carlo which has caught most of my attention here and with Bruno Genesio’s men being priced at odds of 2/5, this home banker looks good on any accumulator.

Two Will Do

Finally, we are off to Angers and instead of a match outcome, all I am interested in is goals. While two will be the magic number for me, as I have opted for over 1.5 in total when they play host to Brest on Sunday.

While two in total has been the magic number for Angers thus far and with them managing a goalless draw at home to Nantes on the opening weekend, they then played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Auxerre last time out.

Although Brest have been slightly more generous in terms of shipping goals and although they lost 3-2 to Lens in their first league outing of the season, they did earn a very respectable draw at home to Marseille last Sunday.

Which means when you look at the quality of either side’s defence, goals should be on offer and with over 1.5 being priced at 3/10, it looks like the odds are certainly going to be in our favour for this one.
