The Spanish League Leaders

Barcelona v Celta Vigo - Over 3.5 goals (8pm)

The first of our four clashes takes us to La Liga and with it being all change at the top of the table, it is now Barcelona who start the weekend as league leaders. With Xavi’s men earning a narrow win over Mallorca last Saturday, they would then await to see how Real Madrid did a day later.

With the Catalan giants going on top on at least a temporary basis, it now has more an element of permanence and after Los Blancos’ were held at home to Osasuna, it is just goal difference which is separating the two kings of Spanish football.

While it is goals that is of more importance to me and with the Camp Nou outfit averaging an impressive 2.71 per game this season, this bodes rather well before the visit of Celta Vigo on Sunday.

Especially as the team from northwest Spain are no slouches in front of goal either and with the odds of over 2.5 looking on the skinny side, I have supersized this selection instead. Which means my first pick is over 3.5 at odds of 6/4.

The German League Leaders

Stuttgart v Union Berlin - Under 2.5 goals (6:30pm)

Next up we go to the Bundesliga and the second team that are leading their respective standings at the time of writing. Although the team that is top of the German shop, is perhaps something of a surprise.

That surprise comes in the shape of Union Berlin and with the outfit from Germany’s capital currently possessing only goal difference as their margin of superiority, they will also look to return to winning ways on Sunday.

If they are to do so, they must get the better of VfB Stuttgart and with Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men sitting third from bottom before the weekend’s action gets underway, they should provide ideal opposition.

Then again, this may be a game that does not lend itself to too many goals and with Union Berlin averaging less than two a game and Stuttgart having notable issues in the final third, I am backing under 2.5 at odds of 8/11.

The Special One

Roma v Lecce - Under 2.5 goals (7:45pm)

Now we take a trip to Italy, as Roma play host to Lecce and with the Serie A title race already shaping up to be a rather competitive one, Jose Mourinho’s men will look to keep their nearest rivals within touching distance.

Before the weekend begins, Roma find themselves four points off the pace and with two defeats in their last six league outings, there are hints that this team may not last the distance. However, if there is one thing that their manager loves, it is proving the doubters wrong.

While what better way to do that, than by earning maximum points and with Lecce providing the opposition at the Stadio Olimpico, this should be the likely outcome. Then again, it is not the outcome that concerns me, it is the number of total goals.

With Roma averaging 1.25 goals this season and just a single goal against, it is fair to say that they are not the most entertaining team in Italy. While if they are low in wow factor, Lecce’s own record suggests they are even lower. Which means under 2.5 in total at odds of Evens is my next pick.

The Final Pick

Montpellier v Monaco - Over 2.5 goals (12pm)

While the final of my four Sunday picks takes me to France and I am hoping that the entertainment dial is turned up to the maximum, as Montpellier prepare to play host to Monaco at the Stade de la Mosson.

Going into this game, the statistics certainly lead to goals and with Montpellier having scored in each of their last nine league outings and Monaco having done the same in their last 19, at least a goal each looks something of a banker.

Especially as Monaco put four goals past Nantes last weekend and in doing so, Philippe Clement’s side earned themselves a fourth successive victory in Ligue 1. While during the same sample of matches, Montpellier have lost three and only won once.

In addition to this, Montpellier are conceding more than two goals per game this season, and this is music to my ears when it comes to my accumulator. With their ability to concede and Monaco’s ability to score, I am selecting over 2.5 goals at odds of 8/15.

While if you put all four combinations together, Bet365 are prepared to offer you 12.24/1 in return.
