Beale Or No Beale

It may be all change in the blue half of Glasgow, but that change will need to see positivity in Cyprus on Thursday.

Thursday Night Football

After an indifferent start to the new season, the pressure was certainly building upon the shoulders of Michael Beale as manager of Rangers and although that pressure was released on Sunday, it was for all the wrong reasons.

Because after a 3-1 reverse at home to Aberdeen, the boos were far too loud at Ibrox. The fans had seen enough on Saturday, the board had come to the same overall conclusion just 24 hours later.

A conclusion that sees Beale’s Ibrox tenure last no more than 10 months and although the Rangers rollercoaster has slowed down for now, it will once again be in action on Thursday in the Europa League.

A competition that had been Beale’s saving grace in the first two months of the season and after getting the better of Real Betis in Matchday 1, it offered a reminder of those European nights of two seasons ago.

A time when the blue half of Glasgow would make it all the way to the final before losing to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties. There’s a sense that the club have not been the same since, they’ve also said goodbye to two managers between May 2022 and now.

Beale joins Giovanni Van Bronckhorst on the scrap heap and in the short term it is Steven Davis and Alex Rae who take on the managerial reins. Their first task is to build on the win over Real Betis a fortnight ago and achieve the same outcome in Cyprus.

Standing in their way are none other than Aris Limassol and after losing 3-2 to Sparta Prague in the Czech capital on Matchday 1, they will look for better fortunes when they welcome a currently out of sorts Rangers.

While Aris Limassol have been out of sorts themselves when it comes to domestic matters. Before they roll out the red carpet to their Scottish opponents, they currently sit fifth in the Cypriot First Division, and they lost their last league outing at the weekend.

A performance that saw Nikolas Martides’ men not only lose at home to Apollon in the Limassol derby, but it also saw collective heads lost when they would eventually finish the game with just 10 men on the pitch.

But now it is time for the first of my two tips and after the events of the last few days, Rangers will look to do nothing silly early on. Therefore, I am backing the half time draw but eventual away win at odds of 4/1.

In addition to this, I am going to focus on James Tavernier and with his free-kick scoring ability known to us all, I am backing the right back to net an effort from outside the box. An effort that is currently priced at 10/1.
