Belgium World Cup Top Scorer Betting Preview & Tip

By their own admission, Belgium have been serial underachievers at the World Cup. We have constantly talked about the Red Devils and the supposed ‘golden generation’ of players, and they will be desperate to go at least one step better than four years ago when they reached the semi-finals.

There is a shot at redemption for Roberto Martinez, who is set to stand down after the World Cup, and he has a highly vaunted squad at his disposal.

Naturally, there are plenty of matchwinners for Belgium, and they should glide through Group F with minimal fuss.

But who will end up being the team’s top scorer at the tournament? We have given you the full lowdown in this guide, running the rule over a few contenders. All the odds have been provided by Unibet.

Romelu Lukaku – 5/2

Get 5/2 on Romelu Lukaku to be top scorer for Belgium

The big forward is Charles' pick to score most for Belgium

When on form, Romelu Lukaku is a serious handful and his international record can’t be disputed — 68 goals in 102 appearances. His reputation took a bit of a hit when he rejoined Chelsea, but now he seems to be enjoying his football again as he’s currently on loan at Inter Milan.

Lukaku is a bit of a battering ram up front, and he can turn defenders inside out with his pace, and his left foot can be a wand. Lukaku will want to prove a point, and in doing so, he could pop up with a few goals. He has had injury issues this term, but Belgium will hope he’s fully firing, and he’s currently the favourite in this section of the World Cup outrights.

Kevin De Bruyne – 7/2

Underneath the calm exterior is a player that is ultra competitive, and he is the heartbeat of the team. Kevin De Bruyne has it all in his locker — he’s fantastic from set-pieces, he can play as a roaming No.10 or as a box-to-box midfielder.

In his last 10 competitive games, De Bruyne has enjoyed eight goal involvements out of 18 goals playing as a No.10. He possesses excellent vision, and he has become more prolific over the past few years. He could catch fire in Qatar.

Michy Batshuayi – 4/1

No longer a maverick, Michy Batshuayi is still a free spirit and much admired within the Belgium camp. While he struggled to make an impact at Chelsea, and latterly Crystal Palace, Batshuayi appears to be more comfortable at Fenerbahce.

He has been in free-scoring mode, netting eight times for the Turkish outfit, and if he’s given a regular starting role at the World Cup, he could bang in a few. Some may say his social media activity is more vibrant than what he does on the pitch, but Batshuayi will be keen to prove some of his critics wrong.

Eden Hazard – 7/1

We all know what Eden Hazard is capable of, but his star has waned at Real Madrid, and that has been largely down to injuries. Belgium fans will miss the Hazard who can slalom between defenders, and when at the races, he has a few goals in him.

And Martinez still counts on him. It will be interesting to see what Hazard turns up, and whether he can still produce the goods.

Belgium Team Top Goalscorer Prediction

While the Belgium squad is littered with potential matchwinners, Lukaku seems to be the standout player from a scoring perspective. Although he could face stiff competition from De Bruyne, he could nudge De Bruyne out, and Lukaku will be vital if Belgium are going to go deep in the tournament.

Despite carrying short odds, Lukaku on his day is unstoppable and he’s worth exploring further if you like this section of the World Cup outrights.
