Who will grab the bragging rights in Der Klassiker?
The stage will be set when the first instalment of the Der Klassiker when Borussia Dortmund collide with arch-rivals Bayern Munich on Saturday evening at Signal Iduna Park.
Since a 1-0 defeat to Augsburg, Bayern are enjoying a resurgence and in their last two games in all competitions, they have scored nine unanswered goals.
Across their first eight fixtures, they have rattled home 23 goals and have netted four times or more on three occasions. In contrast, Dortmund have managed an uncharacteristically low 11 goals from their league outings to date.
There will be no half measures in this mouth-watering fixture, although Bayern will be monitoring the fitness of Joshua Kimmich, which would leave Leon Goretzka and Marcel Sabitzer as the double pivot in midfield.
To ramp up excitement for this showdown, we have handpicked a couple of tips for you to mull over.
Bayern Munich to tear down Yellow Wall
Bayern when in full flow, have had a propensity to slice and dice their opponents. Their rapier-style attacks can be hard to contend with and while they faced more limited opposition in mid-week against Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League in midweek, Julian Nageslmann’s charges were resplendent.
Although Jude Bellingham is the ace in the Dortmund pack, and has won a league-high 137 challenges this term, he could have his work cut out this weekend.
Goals are something this fixture is almost guaranteed. There have been a whopping 342 goals scored in 106 clashes between these two to date, which averages at 3.23 goals per game.
While the ‘Yellow Wall’ is perhaps one of the most intimidating and spellbinding fan experiences provided at any league ground across Europe, Bayern could dismantle Dortmund with ease if they hit their stride early on.
Bayern are the undisputed Der Klassiker kings as they have won each of their past seven meetings with Dortmund.
Nagelsmann will want to continue to lord it over Dortmund, whom they are currently level on points with, but Bayern have a far superior goal difference.
I am gravitating toward the winning margin market and I fancy Bayern to run riot. The winning margin provides some value and you can get Bayern to win by three or more goals, with a 6/1 price proffered by bet365.
Sadio Mane to bag a double
After arresting a barren run in front of goal, Sadio Mane netted in back-to-back games against Bayer Leverkusen and Plzen. The Senegal international has netted four times in the Bundesliga this term, but three of these have come on the road.
Although Dortmund have been resolute defensively when Mats Hummels has been on the pitch, conceding just once in 512 minutes, Mane will still look to pick his pockets and exploit any gaps at the back.
Bayern have plenty of firepower and I think Mane will rise to the occasion. He could well help himself to a double which is available at 13/2 with William Hill, and that might be a price worth jumping on.
