Roberto de Zerbi’s men have made a pensive start to Group B, picking up just one point from their first two games, and this has been a marked contrast to their Premier League form.

Although they were on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline away to Manchester City last weekend, they did stage a late rally, and they are always entertaining to watch.

What will be more concerning for the Seagulls, is that the injuries are starting to bite, and several players have been ruled out of the Ajax clash, including Danny Welbeck (muscular).

But Ajax are a team deeply entrenched in a crisis in the wake of Maurice Steijn’s sacking earlier this week, and they will now be hoping for divine intervention to repair the damage caused so far.

I am looking forward to this one, and to set the tone, I have provided a comprehensive preview and incorporated a couple of betting tips for you to consider.

Brighton to rub salt into the wounds

It has been a bit of a rude awakening for Brighton as far as their European travails have been concerned.

While nobody expected it to be easy, it’s fair to assert the quality of opposition has been a bit of a step up and they are anchoring Group B.

Although the panic button won’t be pressed imminently, Brighton will want to rub salt into the wounds of Ajax who are second from bottom in the Eredivisie, with just one victory to their name from their opening seven league games.

Ajax’s decline has been concerning for all those connected to the club, and one win in their past eight games in all competitions points to a side in disarray. Not only that, but they have failed to score in three of those matches.

Despite being winless in their past five matches in all competitions, Brighton have made the AmEx Stadium something of a fortress, and they are tough to break down.

To open proceedings, I have been drawn to the Win to Nil market, and Brighton to fulfil this line. If you like the sound of that, then odds of 17/10 await at Paddy Power.

Our First Prediction

Evan Ferguson to break Europa League duck in style

Touted as one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League, Evan Ferguson will be hoping to translate his potential onto the European stage.

He’s netted five times for club and country this term, but the 19-year-old was rather subdued against Marseille, as he ended up going into the referee’s book.

Ferguson is a bit of a free spirit, but he provides an extra dimension to Brighton’s attack, and he could well open his account in style.

For my second pick, I have leaned towards a tempting match special of Ferguson to score from outside the penalty area which is available at 9/1 with William Hill.
