Sunday promises to offer another spectacular day of continental clashes, so pack your passport and join me as we look at four of the very best.
Back To Business
The first of our four clashes takes us to the Bundesliga and after suffering defeat to Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup last weekend, RB Leipzig will now look to get their league campaign underway.
A campaign that first sees them travel to VfB Stuttgart and after suffering the disruption of managerial change last season, it is fair to say that the energy drink backed outfit are a lot more settled under Domenico Tedesco.
Now though, Tedesco will not have to operate a salvage mission, instead he can aim to at least offer an early challenge to Bayern Munich and although a win at Stuttgart on Sunday looks likely, it is goals that have piqued my interest.
Especially as both they and Bayern shared eight between them last weekend and with me only on the look out for three, I think this is achievable when RB Leipzig travel to the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Therefore, over 2.5 at odds of 8/11 is my first goals on Sunday selection.
Stuttgart v Leipzig Over 2.5 Goals
Slight European Hangover
After a rather impressive victory over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League qualifiers, Dundee United return to domestic business this weekend and it is business that sees them welcome to Livingston to Tannadice.
With Jack Ross now residing as manager in the tangerine half of Dundee, the former Sunderland and Hibernian boss has been tasked with at least maintaining United’s fourth placed finish of last season or at the very best, moving a position up the table.
While as for Livingston, they will look to be in the top half by the time the split comes around and although they lost 2-1 to Rangers last week, they did give the Glasgow giants something of an opening weekend scare.
However, with Dundee United probably having more than one eye on a trip to the Netherlands next Thursday, goals may be at a premium in this encounter. Which is why I have opted for under 2.5 goals between them and Livingston at odds of 4/6.
Dundee Utd v Livingston Under 2.5 Goals
At The Velodrome
Next up we are to off to France and with Igor Tudor taking the managerial reins at Marseille, it will be interesting to see what the former Verona boss can do and whether if he can turn the Stade Velodrome outfit into anything near title contenders.
Because with PSG being as mighty as they are, Marseille may have to settle with being the best of the rest once more and when you consider the rest of chasing pack, that is by no means a given either.
Which is why a dream start for Tudor’s reign will be so important on Sunday and although Reims should cause them little in the way of concerns, I am hoping that the entertainment factor is rather high in this one.
One that sees at least three goals recorded between Marseille and Reims and if that is the case, it means the third leg of our Sunday accumulator is a winner. A winner that is currently priced at odds of 10/11.
Marseille v Reims Over 2.5 Goals
Keep It Tight
While finally we stay within the confines of Ligue 1 and move from Marseille over to Lille, as the champions of two seasons ago welcome a side that earned themselves promotion to the top tier just a few months prior.
That side is none other than Auxerre and although they are no longer the powerhouses of French football that they once were, they are always welcome in the top tier. While they will also be welcoming of any league points that come their way.
Whether they can achieve this as soon as Sunday, I am not too sure. Then again, I am only interested in goals and in this encounter between Lille and Auxerre, I have a feeling it could be a rather tight affair.
Especially as the last thing that Auxerre will want to do. is embarrass themselves on their first weekend back and therefore, I am backing no more than two goals in total at the Stade Pierre Mauroy. An outcome where you can currently double your money at odds of Evens.
Lille v Auxerre Under 2.5 Goals
While if you put all four combinations together, Bet365 are prepared to offer you 10/1 in return.
