After suffering defeat at the hands of Manchester United last Sunday, Arsenal’s perfect start to the Premier League season has now come to an end and although that will have been a bitter pill for Mikel Arteta and his players to swallow, domestic matters must now be parked in midweek.

Because this Thursday sees the Gunners embark on a new European tour and one where the aim is to eventually land Europa League success at the end of the season. Something that would not only offer silverware but an insurance policy at the same time.

With the winners of the Europa League also being afforded entry to the following edition of the Champions League, this additional prize certainly makes Thursday night football worthwhile. That is though, if you can win outright by the end of next May.

Although progress is not at stake in this fixture, group stage points certainly are and after already getting the better of Linfield and Hearts in recent weeks, Zurich boss Franco Foda will now want to test his managerial acumen against one of the Premier League’s best.

However, it is fair to say that Zurich are far from Switzerland’s best right now and with seven weeks of this season’s Swiss Super League already in the history books, the Stadion Letzigrund outfit find themselves lying second bottom in the standings.

Not only that but Franco Foda’s men have only picked two points from the first 21 on offer and therefore, the visit of Arsenal will at least offer some respite when it comes to their current league woes.

Then again, this current Arsenal crop are looking rather impressive and although changes from the usual Premier League starting eleven may be made, the personnel involved should have more than enough to deal with their Swiss hosts.
