Germany World Cup Top Scorer Betting Preview & Tip

Germany may be widely revered and viewed as a giant in the footballing community, but they are going through a dark period in its history.

Back-to-back exits before the quarter-finals of two major international tournaments have cast a cloud over the Germans, but with a change in coach, Hansi Flick will be hoping he can steer the country to new heights.

Germany, of course, is dripping with quality as they prepare for the 2022 renewal of the World Cup in Qatar, but a chink in their armour may be their vulnerability in midfield.

But who is going to supply the goals and be the team’s highest scorer at the tournament? In this guide, we will run through the main contenders, and quote odds that have been supplied by Paddy Power.

Kai Havertz – 4/1

Kai Havertz may not be a natural out and out goalscorer, but he usually pops up with a timely goal. Playing for the national team will be a release for him judging by Chelsea’s struggles this term. And Chelsea fans will probably attest that he should score more often than he does.

Havertz is good at playing on the last shoulder of defenders and making darting runs which can often be hard to track for the opposition. Although he has only netted six times in all competitions this season, he will relish the challenge offered by the World Cup, and it will be fascinating to see how he fares especially when he’s given a central striking position.

Serge Gnabry – 6/1

Serge Gnabry is the sort of player that gets bums off seats, and he is blessed with technical excellence as well as blistering pace, so he is bound to give defenders a headache.

He has been in superb form this term for Bayern Munich, netting 10 times in all competitions, and German supporters will be hoping he translates this form into the World Cup. If he does, he could well contend for the Golden Boot.

Leroy Sane – 6/1

While he may not always hog the limelight, there has been something that has switched inside Leroy Sane, and he could light things up in Qatar.

His left foot is generally unerring, and he has a penchant for scoring spectacular goals. Although he will be expected to provide a few assists, Sane will be keen to get in on the act, and he could contribute a few goals. Odds of 6/1 for Sane to be Germany’s top goalscorer aren’t anything to scoff at.

Thomas Muller – 10/1

Perhaps better known as the assist king, Thomas Muller will be happy to play the role of chief destroyer. He is one of the battle-hardened individuals in this squad, but he is more than the sum of his parts and his experience is invaluable.

Having already weighed in with 10 goals in World Cup Finals, Muller will be hoping to add to that tally in Qatar. He is also a former Golden Boot winner, so his credentials shouldn’t be underestimated, and his odds seem rather fair. Odds that could be worth a cheeky punt.

Germany Top Goalscorer Prediction

Germany have some fabulous options up front, and while the expectation levels will ratchet up for Havertz, this could be a World Cup where Gnabry truly shines and he could provide some telling contributions in front of goal.

We have seen first hand what Gnabry can produce, and he will like to grab games by the scruff of the neck. While he’s not the favourite in the Germany top goalscorer section, he may well end up defying the odds.
