A Yorkshire Derby

When Huddersfield were ailing in the Championship relegation zone, there was only one man who could save them: Neil Warnock.

Age And Experience

Just a point from safety. That is all that is required for Huddersfield and whereas most teams only have one game left in the regular season of the EFL Championship, Neil Warnock and his players get two bites of the cherry.

While the fact that the Terriers are even in such a position is not something that should be overlooked. 22nd when Warnock took the reins during the middle of February. 21st at the time of writing this preview.

It may not be a seismic jump in the grand scheme of things, but the movement of one solitary position is arguably all that matters to the club. Simply put, it is the difference between staying up and going down.

As things stand, it is Huddersfield who are set to complete the great escape, and although they face second-placed Sheffield United on Thursday, Paul Heckingbottom’s side may well be the best opposition that they could face.

With the Blades having already secured a return to the Premier League, there is nothing more than local bragging rights up for grabs at the John Smith’s Stadium and who needs those when you have reached the promised land.

Therefore, Huddersfield may never get a better opportunity to not take the relegation battle into the final day and when you consider their opposition this coming Sunday, the fixture computer could not have done any better.

Without trying to overlook this midweek fixture, it is almost possible not to. With Reading currently occupying the final relegation berth, it is they who are three points behind Huddersfield before Thursday and it is they that make the trip north at the end of the week.

Sometimes when the gap is this wide, a superior goal difference acts as an additional point and all but confirms safety. Reading may have an inferior figure at present, but it is only two less than the team they are trying to overtake.

Should Huddersfield lose on Thursday, that two will become one at least, it could even be equal or worse if Sheffield United record a sizeable victory. Reading fans will be willing on the Blades, but do the Bramall Lane outfit have enough desire to go for the jugular?

But now it is time for the first of my two tips and with the hosts needing just a point, that is exactly what I think they will get. Huddersfield have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last six matches, which is why the score draw at odds of 3/1 ticks a lot of boxes.

Our Top Value Suggestion For Thursday's Match

Talking of the box, I will also focus on the player who will get a Huddersfield goal. Defender Matty Pearson already has five to his name this season – the club’s joint highest in the league and at 12/1 to earn a sixth at any stage of the game, I think this offers a great deal of pre-match value.
