Ipswich vs Leicester Match Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

A huge Championship clash is on the Boxing Day menu; you might want to put the comfy trousers on before another feast of sporting action.

Boxing Day Bonanza

A clash that sees the top two sides in the Championship square off at Portman Road. Both have designs on automatic promotion; both also have designs on the title.

The Top Two

There is no doubt that Ipswich and Leicester have been a class apart within this current Championship crop, as they have both managed to put considerable headroom between themselves and the other 22 teams.

So much distance, that the book is almost closed when it comes to writing about the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League. Almost closed but not quite and if you are a Leeds supporter, you would be hoping for a few more pages to written yet.

Especially as one of or at least both the top two will have to drop points at Portman Road and whatever the outcome on Boxing Day in East Anglia, there will be some form of celebrations within the Elland Road fraternity.

While it is the Ipswich and Leicester fraternities that will be looking to celebrate the most once the Boxing Day football is served up. These two teams have the appetite for more points, the rest of the division are having to make do with relative leftovers.

Crumbs at the table as the Tractor Boys and the Foxes sit at the top of the league, and they have done so with some style. Kieran McKenna’s men undoubtedly the surprise act of the Championship season so far, no surprise at all when it comes to Enzo Maresca’s.

The King Power Stadium outfit are a Premier League outfit in all but name and although there have been some high-profile departures from the East Midlands in the summer, the level of personnel is still approaching top tier.

Because even when Leicester suffered the ignominy of relegation, many observers felt they would be best suited to the quickest top flight return possible and it looks like those same observers are being proved right.

While the same experts had Ipswich down to at least ruffle some feathers after their promotion from League One, maybe even an outside shot of a play-off place come May. Those expectations have been surpassed and then some.

At the start of this season it would have been easy to dismiss Ipswich’s start as nothing more than a fluke with the big guns having yet to truly wake up. Now at the halfway mark, Mckenna and his players are making a mockery of such thoughts.

But now it is time for the first of my two tips and after 22 matches, Ipswich have the best home form in the division, Leicester the best away. Nothing to split the two runaway trains, therefore the call to action is backing the draw at odds of 12/5.

In addition to this, I think it is going to be an entertaining affair for the likes of Ed Sheeran in the stands and you can back the stalemate and over 2.5 goals draw (a 2-2 draw or anything higher) at odds of 9/1.
