The Old Lady

Sevilla may not be the same force in La Liga this season, but they love nothing more than lifting the Europa League trophy.

Not Quite Safe

It is fair to say that Juventus’ season has been nothing short of tumultuous. A 15-point deduction in Serie A was applied last November and their campaign was subsequently in tatters. Fast forward six months and those points had magically reappeared.

15 points that has turned a lowly seventh-place standing into potentially being the best of the rest in Italy. This season’s scudetto may have passed them by, but outright victory in the Europa League is within touching distance.

Standing in the way of an appearance in this year’s final is none other than Sevilla. They themselves have had a rather turbulent campaign and one that has seen a change of manager only recently.

With the Andalusians usually knocking on the top four door in La Liga, this season has seen them closer to the relegation trapdoor instead and as a consequence Jorge Sampaoli was given his marching orders two months ago.

A desperation move to make sure that Sevilla were not consigned to a shock relegation. Thankfully for the club’s board, their decision to replace Sampaoli with Jose Luis Mendilibar has proved to be a rather inspired one.

What was a dalliance with La Liga’s relegation zone is now looking like a top-half finish at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium and because of such safety, an assault on the Europa League can be given full focus.

Under Sevilla’s previous manager there was a sense that progress in Europe may have to be weighed up against league survival and therefore, another continental prize may have had to be eventually sacrificed.

Now though, the distribution of eggs into baskets is a lot simpler. It is full pelt on Thursday and this Sevilla side are in no mood to crack in Turin. They approach this encounter having won four of their last six league outings and having disposed of Manchester United in the previous round.

While Juventus will be glad that this fixture has been played a couple weeks after the run of three successive league defeats. Thankfully for Thursday’s hosts, they come into this clash having picked up seven points from the last nine and having disposed of Sporting in the last eight.

But now it is time for the first of my two tips and with Sevilla having such a symbiotic relationship with this competition, I think they offer incredible value at odds of 4/1, and this is why I am opting for the away win in just a few hours.

The Spanish side is one of the most successful teams in UEL's history

While my second tip is focusing on the player who will break the deadlock in Turin. I have plumped for Lucas Ocampos of Sevilla. The midfielder has scored in two of his last three La Liga outings and with this purple patch of form, 12/1 is a great price to get things underway on Thursday.
