After returning to Bundesliga duties with a win, Borussia Dortmund will aim to kick on away to Mainz on Wednesday evening.
Mainz v Borussia Dortmund Betting Tips
The latest round of fixtures saw 41 goals plundered — the most on a single matchday in 20 years — and Dortmund contributed to that as they came out on top in their seven-goal thriller at home to Augsburg last weekend.
Mainz, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw in their first game after the winter break on the road against Stuttgart, and they will be looking to climb the table as they are currently ensconced in 12th.
Dortmund have no fresh injury concerns to contend with going into this game, although new signing Julian Ryerson is likely to continue to deputise at right-back.
But how will this match unfold? We have scoured the markets and highlighted a couple of tips to mark your betting slips with ahead of kick-off.
Borussia Dortmund to edge things
Dortmund’s win over Augsburg encapsulated everything that has been good and bad about them this term. There was some kamikaze defending thrown in with some spectacular goals.
Interestingly, Dortmund have seen the Over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last nine league outings, but clean sheets have been hard to come by.
Perhaps more of a concern to the Bumblebees will be that they have lost their past two away matches which shows they aren’t the Bundesliga’s best travellers.
And they will need to rectify that when they face a Mainz side, although they have beaten Mainz on their past five league visits.
A victory would propel Dortmund, who are sixth in the table, and things are nip and tuck in the upper echelons. I have a hunch Dortmund will nick this one 2-1, and if you like the sound of that Correct Score selection, you can locate odds of 9/1 with William Hill.
Youssoufa Moukoko to get ball rolling
Despite going through a bit of a lean spell, Youssoufa Moukoko has been Dortmund’s top scorer this term with six goals to his name.
Having recently put pen to paper on a new three-year contract extension to ward off the interest of potential suitors, the 18-year-old, who has also contributed six assists this campaign will want to rediscover his golden touch.
Clearly, Moukoko is a bright talent, and he could give Mainz plenty to think about.
Although the likes of Giovanni Reyna and Jude Bellingham have received all the plaudits of late with some scintillating displays, Moukoko could find the target against Mainz.
If you are tempted by the Goalscorer Markets, then you will see Moukoko is trading at 6/1 with Unibet to break the deadlock which may be worth following up on.
