Aiming For Ten

Leeds are the latest club to rid themselves of a Premier League manager and there is only one man left to take the reins. That man is none other than Sam Allardyce.

Activate Big Sam

Pep Guardiola versus Sam Allardyce is not a meeting of managerial minds that many expected to see in 2023. Then again, with the Premier League having the constant ability to surprise people, this upcoming pairing should not be that much of a surprise either.

It is championship chasing Manchester City going up against a Leeds side that is looking to avoid relegation to the EFL Championship and if the latter are to stay up, it is going to need a rather great escape.

Although Leeds currently find themselves on the right side of the relegation zone’s dotted line, it is only goal difference that is keeping their heads above water, and it is goals that they have been conceding with considerable regularity.

The Elland Road outfit have conceded 18 goals in just five previous league outings. A run that would see off Javi Gracia as manager. A run that will need every last drop of Sam Allardyce’s defensive nous to fix.

Of course, the big question regarding Big Sam is whether he still has that nous in abundance. He oversaw a relegation with West Brom two seasons ago, one wonders if it will be the same in just three weeks’ time.

While three was the magic number for Manchester City in midweek. They may have failed to get the better of West Ham in the first 45 minutes but a trio of goals in the second half would see them return to the top of the Premier League table.

They and Arsenal swapped pole position at the start of the week but now City find themselves a point clear of the Gunners with a game in hand. It has taken time to get into the driving seat, but Pep Guardiola’s men are finally there.

While Erling Haaland has taken no time at all when it comes to breaking goalscoring records. His goal against West Ham on Wednesday was his 35th league goal of the campaign – one more than the previous all-time best set by both Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.

With that said, personal records do not mean a great deal if there are not the team prizes to go alongside them. Haaland has 35 league goals, he will probably score 40 but he would love a first English title even more.

With that in mind, our latest bet builder is now up for grabs, and it looks like this:

  • Manchester City – 1st half win
  • Both teams to score
  • Under 4 total goals
  • Man City to win 2-1

Our Top Selections For The Match at Etihad

For my latest bet builder offering, there is little in the way of obvious value and therefore, I need to think outside of the box. With that said, I think Manchester City will find joy in the box and therefore, I have backed them to be ahead at the interval.

With Big Sam aiming to tighten up the Leeds defence, I think the game will finish with under four total goals. Not only that, but I also think that the visitors will also get on the scoresheet. For all intents and purposes, the final score is a 2-1 home win but the bet builder boosts the odds to 14/1.
