After surprising many by finishing top of Group F, Morocco’s defence has also come in for plenty of deserved plaudits. Now though, it will face a considerable test against Spain.

10/1 Morocco v Spain Bet Builder

We've combined three legs around a draw in 90 minutes

Morocco v Spain Match Preview

There is no doubt that last Thursday was the most dramatic evening of World Cup action in Qatar. An evening that for 180 seconds saw Spain crashing out of the tournament at the hands of both Japan and Costa Rica.

Thankfully the three minutes of madness would conclude with Germany restoring parity against Costa Rica and although Luis Enrique’s men could not find an equaliser against Japan, a 2-1 defeat was still enough to advance to the Round of 16.

Although in a neat twist of fate, finishing second in Group E may have given Spain a more favourable pairing for their first knockout phase outing. Had they won their group, they would have faced Croatia on Monday.

Then again, any views towards favouritism may be doing upcoming opponents Morocco a massive disservice. The Atlas Lions certainly did not finish top of a group containing both Belgium and Croatia by accident.

While after reaching the Round of 16, Walid Regragui’s side are one of two notable dark horses that are left in the competition at the time of writing. We all know about Japan, but perhaps it is time to shine some light on their North African counterparts.

After a solid start against the Croats, Morocco have certainly grown into this year’s tournament. Growth that has come in the shape of back-to-back wins over both Belgium and Canada, while they have only conceded one goal in 270 minutes of Qatar-based football.

Not only that, but the only goal that was conceded was by their own doing. An own goal against Canada serves as the single blot on their defensive copybook and this is something that Spain will certainly have taken notice of.

By comparison, Spain’s tournament seems to be getting worse with every game they play. An emphatic 7-0 win over Costa Rica, was then downgraded to a 1-1 draw with Germany and we all know what happened against Japan.

Now La Rioja will hope that this downward trend is brought to a shuddering halt. Should a reversal of recent fortunes not be on display, their hopes of matching 2010′s outright success will be brought to its own sudden conclusion.

With that in mind, our latest bet builder is now up for grabs, and it looks like this:

  • Match Result Draw
  • Under 3 Total Goals
  • Under 4 Total Cards

For my latest bet builder offering, the spotlight is being shown on Morocco’s defence and from the evidence of what I have seen thus far, I cannot see Walid Regragui’s men losing this match in 90 minutes.

Whether they can win in extra-time or penalties remains to be seen. However, I think goals will also be at a premium as I am backing under three in total. That is the equivalent of a 0-0 or 1-1 draw and that is only 7/1 at present. Should you add a maximum of three cards, this one climbs to 10/1 instead.
