Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan will collide in a glamour Champions League showdown on Wednesday evening.
The Parc des Princes will provide the backdrop for the nouveau riche PSG and an established superpower in AC Milan, who are the competition’s second most successful outfit with seven titles to their name.
For PSG, they will need to step things up, and they will have been given a severe dressing down from Luis Enrique after they were torn apart by Newcastle, succumbing to a 4-1 hammering on Tyneside before the international break.
Milan, on the other hand, hardly had the ideal preparation as they were edged out 1-0 by Juventus last weekend in Serie A.
They need to kick themselves into gear in Group F, drawing both of their games, but more worryingly, a goal has eluded them during their European endeavours to date.
PSG v AC Milan is certainly the standout tie from this week’s gamut of Champions League fixtures, and I can’t wait to see how things unfold.
To put you in the loop, I have provided a detailed preview accompanied by a couple of tips that you could insert on your betting slips.
Milan to be frustrated once again
Given the way PSG were sliced through like butter in their previous Champions League excursion away to Newcastle, this should give Milan a confidence boost heading to the French capital.
That said, Milan have been rather blunt in front of goal of late, and they have only hit the Over 1.5 goal line once in their past four outings in all competitions.
PSG, despite their inability to close out games during the latter stages of the competition, boast a rather enviable record at home, losing just seven of their past 70 European home matches (W45, D18).
There may also be times when Milan could be chasing shadows, as a cursory glance at the stats shows that PSG have enjoyed on average 67% possession across their two games, with only Manchester City seeing more of the ball (69.5%).
With an upcoming clash with Napoli in Serie A to look forward to, Milan will be desperate to return to winning ways.
However, this could be a frustrating night for Milan, and they may have to settle for a draw once again. A share of the points seems fairly priced at Paddy Power, offering 11/4 for such an outcome.
Kylian Mbappe to burst the net with a piledriver
Kylian Mbappe is one of the most prolific strikers, and his credentials are unquestioned.
The French hitman has had the Midas touch this term, weighing in with nine goals in nine games in all competitions for PSG.
Generally, he scores goals in clusters, and he can win games almost single-handedly.
Milan will have done their homework on Mbappe, and while he may not ultimately swing the game in PSG’s favour, I expect him to get on the scoresheet.
If you have a predilection for a special, then bet365 is advertising rather long odds of 14/1 for Mbappe to score from outside the box.
