Rangers v Aberdeen Betting Tips
Try as he might, Michael Beale cannot gain any ground on Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race. Now though, he has a Scottish League Cup semi-final to deal with.
Goodwin Needs Good Luck
With the clock ticking down on the most recent Old Firm derby, it looked as if Michael Beale was to get his and Rangers’ 2023 off to the ideal start. Fast forward just a few seconds later and Kyogo Furuhashi had secured a huge point for Celtic.
One that keeps the gap between the two Glasgow rivals at nine points and one that most likely hands a second successive Scottish Premiership to Ange Postecoglou’s men. A bitter pill for Rangers supporters to swallow, but one that could taste nicer if cup success was to follow.
Something that is certainly not outside the realm of possibility and with the Ibrox outfit being soon to embark on a Scottish League Cup semi-final, they are potentially only 90 minutes away from next month’s showpiece event.
Standing in the way of such progress is none other than Aberdeen and although things were looking rather promising before the World Cup hiatus, manager Jim Goodwin will have wished such a pause was never put on the season.
Because since the players from Pittodrie have returned to league action they have only managed to earn one win from the six encounters they have faced. In fairness it should have been two and failure to double their efforts is still a sore point with Aberdeen’s supporters.
After being 2-1 up against Rangers on home soil, it looked like being a massive result for the Dons and huge dent in their opposition’s title hopes – a dent that would have surfaced way before January’s Old Firm derby.

However, negative tactics have a habit of catching you out at the worst of times and as injury time got deeper and deeper, so did Aberdeen’s defence. Deep enough for Scott Arfield to score once for Rangers. Deep enough for Scott Arfield to twice.
Victory that was snatched from the jaws of defeat and one that added to the criticism of how manager Goodwin sets up against Old Firm. The tactics were also negative against Celtic in the first game back and that also ended in defeat.
Which begs the question as to whether Aberdeen will need to change tact before Sunday’s League Cup showdown. They almost had Rangers on the ropes in league action, they simply failed to land a knockout blow when it mattered.
Now they will hope to land a knockout blow in knockout football. Unfortunately for them, it is Rangers who I envisage embarking on the road to the final and this is why I am backing Fashion Sakala to open the scoring on Sunday at odds of 4/1.
In addition to that, I am also plumping for Rangers to win to nil in this cup semi and to add more meat to the bones, I am backing the correct score pick of a 2-0 win. A suggestion you can also follow at odds of 17/2.
