Having made a 100% start to the new La Liga season, can Real Madrid carry this form into European competition?

On Sunday night, Carlo Ancelotti’s team came from a goal down to beat Real Sociedad 2-1 at home, Fede Valverde and Joselu scoring, as they made it five wins out of five.

In Champions League terms, los Blancos are, of course, kings of this competition, having captured 14 titles so far, including going all the way in five of the last ten seasons.

Meanwhile, this’ll be Union Berlin’s Champions League debut, coming just four years after they were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time ever, and what a setting at which to do it.

Die Eisernen did reach the Europa League round of 16 last season, ousting Ajax en route, but this’ll be, by some distance, the biggest occasion of the club’s 117 year history.

Real Madrid to win and both teams to score

It certainly will not be a walkover, but we still foresee a home win at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid have never failed to get through the modern-day UEFA group stages, winning 32 of their last 40 home group games, beaten only thrice since October 2009.

In both of their home matches so far this season, Carlo Ancelotti’s team have had to come from behind to win 2-1, doing so against Getafe and then, at the weekend, Real Sociedad.

Union Berlin meantime have scored 13 times in five matches this season so, while Urs Fischer’s team may have an historic goal to celebrate, we can’t see die Eisernen leaving the Spanish capital with any points.

Jude Bellingham to score first

The man of the moment, possibly anywhere in world football right now, is Jude Bellingham.

The Englishman has already scored five goals in his five five La Liga matches, with these goals with six points, most-notably bagging a stoppage time winner against Getafe earlier this month.

On top of that, the 20 year old then netted just his second-ever international goal, on target last Tuesday as England beat fierce rivals Scotland at Hampden.

Last season at Borussia Dortmund, Bellingham’s goal-scoring ability came to the fore in the Champions League, finding the target on matchdays one, two, three and four of the group phase 12 months ago.

So, we’re backing Bellingham to score first at the Bernabéu.
