Can Celtic get back to winning ways after dropping yet more points last time out?

A week ago, the Hoops were held to a 1-1 draw by Kilmarnock at Parkhead, taking a first half lead through Kyōgo Furuhashi, only to concede a catastrophic equaliser deep into stoppage time.

Despite being seven points clear at one stage, Brendan Rodgers’ side are now two points adrift Rangers, a gap that may well have been increase to five, should the league-leaders defeat in-form Hearts at Ibrox on Saturday.

With games against Dundee and Heart of Midlothian to come in the next seven days, it is a crucial week for the champions, who really need to pick up all three points in North Lanarkshire.

Motherwell meantime left Celtic Park with a point in November, Jonathan Obika snatching a 90th minute equaliser that afternoon, so will believe another upset is possible.

It’s been a generally miserable campaign for the Steelmen, battling against relegation, although they did enjoy a six-match unbeaten streak either side of the winter break, most notably hammering Ross County 5-0.

This sequence came to an end last weekend however, with Stuart Kettlewell’s team beaten 2-0 at Tynecastle which, given how well Hearts are going, is no disgrace.

In the table, the Well sit ninth, seven points clear of danger, making Wednesday night’s televised visit to rock bottom Livingston a crucial encounter.

Before then, can Motherwell claim a first victory over Celtic since December 2015, Louis Moult the scorer of a brace back then, currently without a win in 30 encounters?

Celtic to win and both teams to score

When Celtic most-recently visited Fir Park in September, it turned out to be one of the most memorable matches of the season in Scottish football.

Blair Spittal snatched a 95th minute equaliser for Motherwell, sparking wild celebrations and even a pitch invasion, only for Celtic to immediately go up the other end and pinch the points, courtesy of Matt O’Riley’s volley coming in the seventh minute of added time.

Overall, the Hoops have won each of their last eight visits to North Lanarkshire, scoring 27 goals and conceding five, with only one of these encounters not seeing 3+ goals.

Six of Motherwell’s nine matches since Christmas day have produced over 2.5 goals, while this has been the case in 65.4% of Celtic’s 26 Premiership fixtures since Rodgers returned.

Kyogo Furuhashi to score anytime

Kyōgo Furuhashi has scored in back-to-back games, on target against St Mirren and then Kilmarnock, taking his tally to 13 for the season.

To date, the Japanese striker has scored five times in eight appearance against Motherwell, netting on both appearance at Fir Park last season, so we’re backing him to continue his scoring streak.
